Nonetheless Toyota should give it a heavy duty auto box.

That would be an interesting option but I can't speak for Hilux and Fortuner but Toyota don't have the most intelligent Auto boxes in the 200 and Prado, at least to me.

The 70 series is just something special.

Talking Prado, I have the manual 6-speed 150 TX d4d Whenever I drive an auto, it's way a better package with the diesel than the manual.

Yes it's not the Discovery's 8 speed, but I prefer auto to the manual. I think they should provide an auto option for the 70 series V8 diesel.

We had a diesel Prado and I agree it was ok. Then went to a Petrol Prado and that was really really bad. The 200 is okish but not great. I can get frustrated at times.

I had an auto 4x4 for many years. Always had this fear that it will leave me stranded. Never happened while 4x4`ing. Then one day in a mining area the starter failed. Had to arrange special permits to recover the vehicle. If it were a manual a little push start would have saved the day.

You can always make a plan to get a manual to start with starter failure or a flat battery. For this very reason `n prefer manual vehicles going into the bundus.

Would love to have the 76 V8 with a six speed manual gearbox.

OK but does push starting work with mordern manual motors? For example, an LC70 series manual with the 4.5D4D - do you not need battery to power the injectors (and glow plugs) etc before the engine fires up, making it very hard to actually push start it on a dead battery? Is it's fuel pump mechanical as it would also need electricity in the first place.

I'm no pro here so help me out.

You are right you will not be able to push start with a dead battery.

Think most of us have dual battery systems installed so the chance that you will be stranded with two batteries with zero charge is very slim. Incase of a failed starter you will be able to push start.

Think part of the surviving of the 70 series is that is kept very basic with a modern twist like the journalist pointed out in the article.

Default The Die Hard 70 Series Land Cruiser.
