    Default Amarok Steering Wheel Upgrade

    Hi All,

Read a few threads but nothing really has the specific answer. Is a MK6, 7 and 8 Golf Steering wheel and Airbag a direct plug and play recplacement for the standard Amarok? Heard as well if it has paddle shifts it will also work out of the box?

Just worried the airbag may not fit the plug, or I will need to replace more then originally planned!

Any direct help will be appreciated!

    V6 Amarok, so 2017+

    Many Thanks

    Simon

Yes it is. The plugs are all the same.
So if you have a MFSW in your vehicle it's a simple 20 min excercise.

Just note that the cruise control on the steering wheel won't work on the amarok, it will stay on the stalk as the amarok uses a different body control module with physical wires from the steering column to the BCM for cruise control and not activated via can-bus.

I fitted a 2017 polo steering wheel in mine. I didn't have a MFSW so had to add some wiring in the steering column. My CC buttons on the steering wheel is just dead as explained above. I have heard of Golf 6 an Golf 7 steering wheel being fitted with no issues.

    Interesting.

Nothing wrong with Amarok steering wheel but a MK7 R or GTI steering wheel would look great.

Well that depends. Specify which amarok.
I had the first steering wheel in my 2011 without controls. Went for the new design with controls and flat bottom. Huge difference!!

Also if you want paddles on the auto you can switch out for one that has got it.

This is excellent thanks! Didn't know the polo wheel fit as well, pretty sure they come in cheaper.

Golf wise then anything MK6 and above will fit!

Flat bottom is what we all love...

As per Willems answers above, Golf 6/7 and Polo TSI shape steering wheels fit perfectly, airbag and MFSW plugs and all.
I have a polo GTI / golf 6 steering wheel in my 2012 Amarok.
Needed to lay 2 new wires from the slipring to the BCM to get it all working.

Looks awesone! How come you needed to run new wires then? Was this for something additional/you didn't have before?

Is that the original airbag then or do you need to make sure you get a steering wheel specific airbag?

Thanks for all the help so far it's appreciated!

Airbags are mostly steering wheel specific.

Both my and Johns amaroks didn’t have mfsw’s so we neede to add a ln and 12v wire.

If you already have a mfsw then it’s a bolt off bolt on exercise. Your old airbag should fit some of the steering wheels but it will need a different wiring harness inside that can connect the control module aswell and not just the airbag.

This is great, will try get a wheel with an airbag, think it's better to keep it plug and play and keep the old if I was ever to reverse it!

    Thanks for this!

    Hi
I would really appreciate some imput and guidance, I swapped out a non-mfsw on a treadline amarok for a mulitfunction wheel. But although two of the buttons cause the radio to react, most the buttons don't work.
I added in the two wires advised.
Maybe the wrong steering wheel ? I notice the buttons are a bit different.
    Any ideas?

That's the steering wheel the facelifted Amarok Highline comes with.
