You may need another look at brands and models I think.
Raptor: would be worth a look if we actually got the proper V8 raptor over here.
Hilux: as far as I know the gazoo racing version is merely just stripes and suspension. Power is the same as gd6.
Amarok: most probably the best the bunch but it's still a VW

Even so, I may just be leaning towards the raptor because of the options available

The LEGAL tow rating for the Raptor in SA is 2.3T which is higher than the other two.

Amarok V6 is 2.2T and the Hilux is 2.1T.

If you are going to do a lot of gravel roads the Raptor is in a class of its own. The Amarok will be next for comfort.

So unless you change the suspension, which is the very thing that makes it special, then I don't think the raptor is the right vehicle here.

I would suggest watch the video of amarok offroading. I love a Amarok, but the air intake sits to the front next to the headlamp, and the alternator rightside at the bottom.

If you drive through mud, the chances of clogging the alternater is big. Water gettin in airintake is big. But look and decide ....3 good vehicles.

These must give it awesome towing and off road capabilities. Surely the one to get.

O yes, and this forum mos loves to talk down a car that will leave you stranded

Try finding those specially designed BFGa on the Raptor at a tyre dealer

Out of the three I would go for the Amarok purely because of the engine. You can always upgrade the suspension and wheels/tyres to suit your needs, later.

Andrew I know the itch. It can be worthwhile to wait a few months. The are bakkies coming that will match or better the power of the v6 Amarok.

I have done several trips with Quack and Ryno and their v6 Amaroks. Think they are the guys exploring the limits of the v6. Have seen the v6 in action in all sorts of terrain. To be honest the V6 did not impress in the dunes. For everything else you need the serious mods Quack have done.
I have said it many times if I need a platkar today I will buy the v6 Amarok without thinking twice. My against is the lack of low range. If pushed hard off road the auto box overheat. Otherwise capable and would make a nice overlander.

If Toyota bring the Hilux in v6 diesel or the Raptor with an Eco boost as the rumours have it with low range I will take one of them
    above a V6 Amarok.
It is not what you buy its what you build.

One of my clients had a V6 Rock. Replaced it with the Raptor. He is an ex track driver if i recall. He plants foot down, 190km/h, down twisty passes. Places where other bakkies he has had twitch on bumpy corners, he said, he has never experienced handling like this. The suspension quality and set up he said is in another league. Enough power, speed he says. And it looks mean that Raptor. On Gravel, offroad i recon its a winner, this is just what he told me. My 2 cents but a penny for your thoughts.....someone is making money here.... Enjoy shopping.
