Default Ford Ranger rear shock protectors

    Hi,

has anyone installed shock protectors for their Ranger? (as per image)

I noticed that the right rear shock takes quite a beating from driving on dirt roads. It would be interesting to know how to mitigate this, as my OME shocks are quite expensive and already full of dents due to the stones hitting and sandblasting it.

    regards

    Jacques

I'm in the Great Karoo with a single tar road. All the rest are dirt with stones, some half to quarter the size of a brick. I have never seen stone damage on a shock. Do you have rubber flaps behind the front wheels that will stop stones flying up? If not, when you go past a vehicle in the opposite direction, they get a stone shower.

On the pic you provided, I don't see any stone damage anywhere else. Is this another "must have" gimmick?

    Hi.

The attached picture is an example. My Ford does have the mudflaps, but stones still go through. The right rear shock is in front of the diff and gets hammered with stones.

see the actual pic from my Ford while driving the Postmasburg/Griekwastad dirt road... (and the dent that is circled)

Another pic from my friend’s Raptor rear shock. He improvised and put a piece of rubber foam to mitigate stone damage...

No shock is ever in front of the diff on any vehicle. The diff(erential) is the round thing in the centre of the rear axle connected to the propshaft. The shocks are on the edges of the axle near the wheels. The police here use Ford Rangers to drive the 80 000 square km of their patrol area on bad dirt roads looking after about 250 farms. I will be asking them if they have ever damaged shocks by rocks denting them.

What speed are you doing on dirt roads for stones to bypass your wheel flaps and dent a shock?

OK, om tegnies korrek te wees, die regter agterste skokbreker is voor die agter as. Die linker agterste skokbreker is agter die agter as.

Ek ry die grondpad 60-80km/h, afhangende van die toestand van die pad.

bygese, ek dink hierdie grondpad is seker 5 jaar laas geskraap. Die mense het al n 2 spoor pad uitgery langs die grondpad op party plekke.

    groete
