Mr G I went to look at this one today.

    Mhh it's nice.

Patrol land cruiser specialists help me.

I have 4 cars on the list now
    Touareg 2009 150 kmk R 150k
    Patrol 2005 300k km 190k
    LQNDCRUISER 1004.5gx 1999 R 200k
    Patrol 2005 200k km R 250k

So I prefer the land cruiser because of condition and 3 lockers.

Which engine is best 4.5 Toyota or 4.8 Nissan.

Hannes, the 4.8 trol motor will kick a Toyota 4.5....

Also, the white (R250k) Patrol is a 2008. As I said, I would put it at the top of my list.

Shoe, that is a hard one between the Cruiser and Patrol. I seriously wanted a patrol 4.8 grx, I just couldn't find one! But the 3 lockers on the cruiser makes it a bit more formidable offroad.

Ian I so appreciate your effort today you went way beyond the call of duty. Its amazing when some one who knows a vehicle looks at it what they pick up. I WILL STILL look at the Touareg and here is my Conundrum. The 2008 Patrol is nearly double the price of the Touareg. The Land cruiser comes in in the middle. Its not a 105 but a 1999 100 4.5 GX with 200 000km.Thankbyou everybody for their input Don't shoot me if I buy something cheap and nasty.I need wheels from Monday and I don't like using uber

Then I would look at the patrol. Good luck with your decision.

The Treg is the cheapest which at this stage is very practical

So it is still high on the list.

For the next six months it is the most practical. But its not the right car to make a trail car when I do replace my Amarok.

It is also very similar to the Velar that we do have.

The car that I want to buy will be my daily for 6 months and then become the dog carrier Sunday afternoon. Around HARTIES and a bit of trail driving so I don't have the risk of damaging my daily drive.

    That is the thought pattern.

And a figo or something for runaround. Can sell the figo again in 6 months and loose very little

    1. bottom sill of the front passenger door. Rock damage. Estimated repair bill (still need to repair the damage) = 10k
    2. right hand side radar cruise control sensor. Repaired for 6k

For the above reasons, I decided to go old school for these types of trips. Less obvious things that can be damaged.

The Treg is kitted for overlanding and I will still use it for less rough excursions. It is an awesome 4x4 and can do 99% of what the Cruiser can do, and in much much more comfort. If I could fit a replacement front bumper and rock sliders I would not have gotten the cruiser.

A Land Cruiser 4.5 GX is a 105 with SFA and 4.5 l straight six engine. The 100 is the VX with IFS and 4.7l V8 petrol or 4.2 diesel.

    Hannes, my honest opinion:

You already have the Velar. Don't get the Treg. You will not want to play with the Treg.

Think long term. If you can live with the un-comfort of a Cruiser/Patrol in the short term, you will smile in the long term. And if you don't, you can always just sell it on - they keep their value. If you buy the Treg now, and you want to sell in the medium term, you will hurt.

The only thing really uncomfortable about a 4.8 GRX is the size and the fuel bill. Maarnouwat.

Looks like I have to do a trip to KwaZulu.

    Any comments on this.

This is currently top of the list even though I have not seen it.

    Reasons
1 the Patrols and LC put a much bigger smile on my face than the Tregs or Range Rovers I have seen. (After looking at the Patrols My wife said I was beaming)

2 This Patrol is 9 years newer than the LC I was looking at. 2008 with 188 000km

    3 Auto

4 The interior is neater than the 2005 I was looking at the price is lower than the 2008 in Brits.

    5 Like the ARB bumper.
