    Default Discovery 2 No.2 - The Tourer

    While this happened a couple months back, i'm only now getting to putting a thread together.

    Over a year ago, at a LROC GTG here in KZN, someone showed up with a Landy like not many that I have seen and I immediately loved it, registration plate HUSKY-WP.

    After deciding to get a D2 and doing the 'ultimate D2 thread', the opportunity came up to purchase 'Husky' and it has been a bit of a goal of mine to have 2 D2s. Keeping the D4 and 2 x D2s was not only impractical, but also with the pandemic, realised how much it costs for a car to sit in a driveway. So we ended up selling the D4 and acquired 'Husky'.

    Below are the pics that was sent when it went up for sale, along with the details:

    2003 Discovery II TD5 Automatic
    I’m not sure which specific trim my Disco is but it has:
    NO SUNROOFS (Big bonus), Semi leather/suede seats, ACE system (working perfect), came with rear air suspension(removed), was originally a 7-seater now 5-seater with rear completely removed for better utility.
    The vehicle has been exceptionally well cared for by all of its owners and comprehensively modified to improved what is fundamentally a very capable off-road vehicle. 0ver R160k worth in modifications outlined below.
    It is a weekend vehicle for me, not my primary transport.


    Exterior/Body:
    Silver metallic paint with extensive bush rash and a partial blacked out bonnet with some clear coat oxidising. Various vinyl stickers.
    Safari snorkel with Africa mesh cover
    Terrafirma TF001AC tube type bumper with T-maxx 9600 winch with 12mm synthetic rope 30m. Hella auxiliary 6ich LED Driving lights.
    Terrafirma TF115 Wide Wheel Arch Kit
    Terrafirma
    BURNCO Rock Sliders with hi lift jack points
    BURNCO Rear Bumper with Dual Spare Wheel Carrier – has tow hitch receiver with hi lift jack points
    BURNCO 40 mm Body Lift
    Frontrunner half roof rack – sand blasted and powder coated with jerry can mounts, hi-lift jack mount, spade mount, various eyelets for the rack
    Terrafirma TF864 Steel Fuel Tank Guard


    Interior:
    Smash and grab tint 35%
    Aircon blows ice cold, recently serviced and re-gassed. Heater works.
    The interior has had the roof lining redone and the leather upholstery is in fantastic condition.
    Escape Gear seat covers (front only) in Khaki with head rest covers which are Land Rover branded.
    Allmakes rubber floor mats.
    JVC stereo unit which still utilises the OEM steering controls and sports a USB port as well as been able to play MP3 and other formats on disc and features Bluetooth
    The steering wheel, low range/high range lever, brake lever has all been redone professionally in black leather as well as the centre cubby which is covered in colour matched padded leather. All the bad Land Rover chamois inserts in the doors have been removed and replaced with genuine leather in black.
    Nautilus air horn and pair of Fiamm conventional hooters (4 tones total), you will be heard
    The front passenger seat has a fire extinguisher affixed to the seat underside for easy access in emergencies.
    The vehicle has an LBB (Little Black Box) warning system as well as a Madman EGT gauge to monitor exhaust gas temperatures with an additional alarm built in.
    A National Luna Dual Battery Controller and wiring is fitted, no auxiliary battery fitted.
    A handy Maglite LED torch is above your head in the centre to access when needed. All interior bulbs – overhead and in the cubby, hole have been changed to LED lighting.
    160 l/hr air compressor mounted under driver’s seat and can be run from this position. Passenger under seat storage. TCU (Transmission control unit) has been re located 30cm higher under centre console
    Sharp knife mounted to 5th Door

    Original engine in perfect running order always with synthetic oil and correct coolant.
    Original engine cover (currently removed)
    Every filter Every service I generally use MAHLE filters and Fuchs Oils

    V8 torque converter and custom 2mm spring steel flex plate, modified boss

    Donut delete Rear prop shaft – no ‘donuts’ to break – with greaseable UJ’s
    Front prop shaft rebuilt with double Cardon joint and new bearing with greaseable UJ’s

    We then promptly took it for a wash, threw on some fresh decals and went on a trip.

    This last weekend, the opportunity presented itself to purchase a set of 285/75/16s. While I was quite happy with the size on originally, 33's are just such a good fit for the car. The problem now is the gearing as well as the EGTs which were perfectly fine before the bigger wheels.

    Next up. It needs a bigger turbo and definitely now needs bigger, stronger, re-geared diffs and a locker in the rear. Watch this space.

    Where is the dual spare wheel carrier ? From the pics it looks like a standard Spare On the Door?

    Has the Burnco kind, so can be removed and single spare used. Still have the dual spare carrier at home.

    Hi Douglas,

    The 30cm shifting of the AT ECU. Please can you send some pics are where it ended up being mounted. Was an extension loom used? The current position is crap for water ....

    Hey B, it was relocated up to the inside lid of the centre console. Not sure exactly how but will try get pics the next time I get in there.
