Default Diesel filter water trap / sensor

    Good Day gents....

I have recently replaced the diesel filter situated in housing underneath chassis on passenger side.
Noticed that only the "BLK" wire is still connected / attached to the sensor. Anyway upon trying to remove the sensor / housing this "BLK" wire also came loose....I think it was already so brittle, it broke off...
Anyway....I tried to drill very tiny holes and solder the wire/s back onto the sensor, but did not work , so did some modification with a screw, as seen in the pic below....Screw is tight, won't come loose...and it works...
Went to a spare shop and the only replacement all of them have is a similar item, however the wires are "BLK" and "RED" and not same as original "BLK" and "GRN"...Also, the (original) plug where it goes into harness on chassis is slightly oval, but the replacement part plug is round.
Can I cut and join the wires so as to be able to sue the original plug / socket? I think it should be fine...

Basically those wires are just to complete the circuit. So by going with your idea, it should be fine.

    Right....
Replaced the water trap/sensor... However, now the "water in filter" light is on, and stays on...As soon as I disconnect the earth "blk" wire...light goes off...
I'm suspecting that the faulty earth wire is deeper / further down the line And not at the water sensor...so will have to play a game of search and find...

OK my 2003,250d has a different water trap. Did you reconnect black wire for black wire and green for red.

    Yup....did exactly that....
therefor, I am thinking the wiring issue might be deeper / further along the lines than I thaught
