    Angry Lindsay Saker Kempton Park

I just need to vent a bit, and issue a warning......

My 2013 Polo Sedan 1.4 (94000Km) developed a slight, very occasional misfire and I decided to let them have a look. They are mos the experts, not so? Well, no, they turned out to be anything but experts.

They misdiagnosed the fault and said No2 Cylinder low compression, the head must be removed. To which I , admittedly stupidly, agreed to at a cost. They said No 2 Cyl some valve leaking, R30 000 to fix. I declined and said just put it back together (I paid R7000 in total to have the head removed, assessed and replaced). When they were done after a week the car was almost undriveable, now constantly misfiring.

Having lost faith in their abilities I took it to an accredited, independent repair place. They confirmed nothing wrong with compression and the cause was 2 pencil coils that is connected to Cyl 3 and 4 were faulty. Half a day later all fixed. I believe with their fiddling they managed to cause more damage as the car was way worse than when I took it there

Now, I complained to the dealership through VWSA and all I got was a big pit! Sorry sir, we cannot comment or accept a 3rd party assessment. End of story, R7k down the drain.

Never go there to have repairs done. I believe they are incompetent
Never give them your phone number, only email, and insist everything goes in writing.
NEVER think they are the experts. Once your warranties have run their course, I believe you are better of at an indie. The company I used is great and believe they have a lot more experience with actually fixing stuff!

    Expensive lesson learnt.

In these times nobody have money to throw away, which is exactly what VW managed to do with my money. Easy to waste peoples money knowing they have no recourse. Cannot fight the monster. R7k wasted. Be careful, its a jungle out there!

Same dealer, roughly 5 years ago ... my wife's then polo, which we bought from the dealers mastercar division. Endless electrical faults. Every time it was "fixed", it was worse. Complained to VW SA and Germany, sorry,. Lindsay Saker's are independent, can't do anything about it. So much so that we had to duck out of the vehicle and jump in to a then residual with Mini, just so that my wife can be on the road (she was a rep)

I veered off from the brand after that.

    My experience/perception
    - The "Technicians" at dealers are no more than new parts fitters following random elimination to sort out a vehicle.
    - What they do to customers is criminal....

    My advice
    - Always go to an independant Auto Electrician first
    - One that can do proper fault finding by experience as well as electronic diagnostics
    - Might cost you R500-R700 bucks
    - Then you go to the dealer, prepared and ready for their bull

Oh, I am veering HARD after this! This Polo is now getting sold and I am moving over to another brand just out of principal. They can keep their Volkswagens. I am not going to cause them one iota of trouble or discomfort, but my heart will feel better if I know I will never have to deal with them ever again

@Dungbeetle you are 100% correct in your statements!

Farewell, my trusty brand for 30 years, I will not miss you.....

Yes, that is them. Done it, got the Tshirt. Both trying to buy new and used, with follow up maintenance disaster.

Did get good service from Benoni however

    Very true words these.

Most dealerships are under such massive pressure to turn around as many cars as possible, that the mechies there have no hope or time to do any real mechanic work. They have to reach a certain target, or they get disciplined and/or fired, true story.

I understand your reasoning for doing this, but don't for one second think it won't happen at other brands.

As said earlier, rather get a decent indy, or another dealership. Case in point here in the Vaal, we have a Lindsay Saker in Vereeniging, and Duttons in Sasolburg, privately owned.

After having had way too many issues with Lindsay Saker, I now only use Duttons. My dislike for LS is so big, that I will never own an Audi, as Duttons are not an accredit Audi dealer.

Having said that, for any out of warrantee work, I will never use any franchised dealer. You get much better and personalised service from a indy.
