You will need to give more info, if you want us to give you some time, then please give us some of your time by providing enough information, like : What tyres do you have on and what are their pressures? Correct tyre pressures can immediately make a marked improvement in ride comfort. Do you have a fixed load on the Hilux like a canopy etc, what do you want to use it for? How much gravel do you do? Are you going to load it, and what is your budget? I took 2 minutes to type all of that with 1 finger...

    Many thanks for the reply.
    Goodyear Wrangler
    2,2 - 2,5 bar depending on the load/trip etc.
    No canopy
General day to day driving. Holiday use a few times a year to Moz.
    Not used for heavy loading.
Vehicle has 200 000 km now and prob 14 years old if they were not changed before I purchased the vehicle - I would imagine the shocks could do with replacing now. Before I just replace them with std Toyota units I thought I should query whether anyone could suggest an alternative - I accept that the price will be different but if it justified by benefits that include better ride comfort (my main request) and has added features - handling etc then I am keen to consider.

    kind regards Dean.

Tyre pressures are correct for those tyres. I would look at any of the aftermarket suspension suppliers who offer a "comfort" option to their range. I can even suggest the Ironman Comfort range, it seems perfect for what you have in mind and it works very well on the Hilux. There are quite a few of them, like Old Man Emu and EFS all offer a "comfort" combi. Or else f that is too steep, speak to Cobus Bohlmer here on the forum he sells Armada Extreme suspension systems that are quite cost effective...

Dean, you need to also consider that any change to the ride quality also impacts on the load rating. There is no free lunch when it comes to suspension changes.

In general with most leaf spring suspensions and standard non-progressive coil spring suspensions:

    - softer = less load capability
    - harder = more load capability

Instead of forking out a lot of money and having a compromised vehicle..........consider just adding 250kg to the Hilux load area......

Alternatively, go for softer springs and understand that your load rating will be less.

Put a canopy on. Will load up rear and make it ride better.

I always can feel when we run out Bakkies with no load. Much harder.
