Default Help !!!! Workshops in PE are scared to work on my vehicle.

    Hi,

I have a 2006 range rover v8 supercharged , with the jaguar AJ8 motor. I need my head gaskets replaced. My car keeps on overheating.

I have already replaced the oil cooler , the radiator ( second hand ) , water pump . The axualiry waterpump is working 100%.

None of the workshops in port elizabeth wants to work on my car. Land rover PE , they dont do headgasket replacements , perhaps they want to replace the entire motor. They can however supply me the headgaskets set for 2k.

Finn auto in PE , quoted me 27k just too strip and assess the heads . That excludes engineering compression test or any engineering work. their quoted Labour hours for their work is 36 hours.

Savoy motors in PE , said that the range rover is a complicated car. They dont touch range rovers. They advise me to speak to a guy named dewalt in fairview, PE. I contacted dewalt, after I mentioned range rover via wattsapp. he never spoke to me again.

I contacted Steve's auto clinic in PE. They also just heard range rover. And never got back to me. All of them are afraid of comebacks.

Belgic auto in PE , a workshop that worked on all my bmw SUV's also said no , they dont work on range rovers.

So now , I'm at my whits end..I'm willing to courier my car to any independent land rover repair shop that can do a head gasket replacement on my vehicle.

So anyone that's in the eastern cape , western cape and kzn. My last option would be joburg.

    Thanks guys.

Look for ‘Viper Rover’ on the members list and send him a message.
he’s a rover v8 specialist based in Dbn. Maybe he can assist. Or advise.

Contacted them already , they said.. Nooooooo ways. They are too scared too work on range rovers. They gave me the name and number of a guy named dewalt in fairview, Pe. That's a land rover specialist that works from home in Lorraine. I called brent and spoke to him. After I told him , it's a range rover. He never got back to me.

When the head gasket of our Rangie went while we were in George, Landrover George sorted it out - admittedly this was the P38 and not the L322 but still worth a try

Thanks estee. But the 5.0 and the 4.2 that I have , are two different motors. There's alot tutorial videos on you tube. It shows exactly how to strip the jaguar motor. It's a 5 - 6 hour job.

But i dont have the special timing tools

    Just an update guys.

Managed to source a jaguar mechanic in port elizabeth that works on these types of v8 engines. He works from home.Total cost of the job 7k. I just need to supply my own spare parts and material ( oil filters and oil )

He'll send it to the engineering, if there is engineering work to be done at my cost.

He said that the bolts can be used twice , and there is no need to do the guides unless you want to refurbish the entire heads. He says it has only happened twice in his lifetime. But these motors dont break or crack easily.

Thanks , again for all the feedback guys.

Advice from my side , do your homework first before taking your car to somebody you don't know , I made that mistake on my disco1 and lost R15000 and got back my landy in a very bad state. Had to redo all myself to get my landy running again. BE CAREFULL.

Hi Lazyboy. When I still owned a Puma, I had it serviced by a guy called Edward (Boetie) Can't remember the surname now.He often had a Range Rover in the workshop for major repairs. Try him at 0825770235. Just remembered the surname of Theron - he is near Walmer
    Park.
