    Default 2015 Grand Cherokee 3.6 Overland (WK2)

Afternoon all. How you guys are doing great considering this lockdown fiasco.

So after 7 years my Disco decided the crank is not needed.

I have started looking around and the GC is popping up on my radar. Couple of 2015 models in my budget range. Looking for some real life feedback on the GC. Drove the 3.6 which I thought was quite decent with the 8-speed gearbox. Around 75k km on the clock.

Any feedback, advice, real life consumption, etc.

    Thanks all.

Nothing wrong with engine or tranny. Check the suspension.

I owned a Disco 3 before my Overland. Besides the headlights of the Disco, I prefer everything on my Jeep. Although you prob expect this as my Jeep is a lot newer. I get around 12l/100km mixed driving. On long runs at 110km I average around 9.1l/100km.
    Brilliant ride.

I have 86350 km on the clock. The irritant is that there is no more stand alone Jeep service facility in Durban. I have had to take my Jeep to shared workshops with Volvo and Kia. I asked a few questions at both workshops and it was evident that the expertise on these vehicles was not there. This concerns me.

Nothing wrong with the GC. But itís not a Disco. Offroad the Disco is much better. Lockers and a better TC.
And i think the suspension is better in the Disco.

    Had a 2007 V8 D3, and a 2015 3.6 GC

Will take the Disco every time!

I recently bought a 2014 GC 5.7L V8 in June. I've done about 3000 k's on it now, including a trip down to the Vrystaat. Beautiful 8 speed box and the air suspension provides an amazing ride. Mine's suspension has some clunks on and an even so slight vibration that is detracting a bit from the butter smoothness. I need to get the rims checked out. It surely gas enough bells and whistles to entertain you for years. Going down to Bloem in very quiet traffic I got 11.5 l/100 at a steady 130kmh. And oh yes, adaptive cruise control is really cool :-)

Now I need to get it further than the braai at Sable Ranch...

That's a pretty respectable consumption, was that worked out fill up to fill up of was it what the trip computer told you??

That was from trip computer, which proofed pretty accurate on a previous fill up. And that was a very steady 130kmh. My return trip was mostly at 140 with stints at higher and it rose to 12.5 then, still not bad. I have to she that it feels amazing at 160. Generally, the steering feel is impressive, very accurate and responsive at highway speeds.

Thanks for all the responses so far.

I have read people saying maintenance is expensive. Guess that is relative, but I am expecting it to be in same region than the Disco or any other Premium SUV. Correct assumption?

The correct word for spares is "relative" compare to others much of a muchness!

    Correct.

Die Poort is ambiguous, where is that? Hekpoort? Roodeplaat?

Find a decent indie: Bulli is in the Silverton area and Eben is in the Moot.

If you're scared then buy a maintenance insurance plan for R30k. I plan to drive less than 10,000 per year and has zero unscheduled maintenance with my previous Jeeps so didn't go for that option.

Whichever route I go, warranty in place is a must. Luckily had one for the Disco over the years. Think I claimed about R120k-R140k over the 7 years and paid about R70k.

Most suspension problems are sorted with a 10c O-ring.
Engine mountings on the 3.6 are a problem.
Engine and gearbox and electronics seem reliable.
My name is Rainier and I drive a Jeep.

Interesting. Because ours are stock and 246,000kms old.

    The issues with the 3.6:

    - plastic oil filter housing
    - plastic thermostat housing
    - plastic radiator tanks

Apart from that: after 246,000kms it uses no oil, uses no coolant, and still gets a class leading fuel consumption.
