New starter is on and the diesel is reaching the pump. If I undo the supply banjo on the pump the diesel comes out a a good rate when cranking the engine. But no diesel comes out on the other side of the pump.

    See here:

    Everything is a hammer.
Unless it is a screw driver.

    Then it it a chisel.

So here is what I envisage for removing the pump:

    1. Remove the injectors.
    2. Remove the tappit cover.
    3. Turn the engine to TDC on no1 piston.
    4. Remove the front inspection cover:

    1. Turn the engine to line up the timing marks.
    2. Remove the pump......

    Sounds simple enough.

Met n skerp bytel, merk die pomp en timingcover om spoeltiming te merk.

I removed the tappit cover and all looks good in there. I've not measured the clearances on the valves yet, but it feels good.

Uys, I see that you are in the Centurion area. Can I please send a tractor to you that needs injector/pump repairs, I see that you have plenty experience now ?

Timing marks. See the small punch mark below the top 4. This is with no1 on TDC (no 4 rocking)

Maybe true, but I have no intention to open this pump myself. I can already hear the springs and small parts fly around the workshop.

After discussions with about 8 diesel experts(which all gave me the same advise) I came to the conclusion that this is the end of the road for the diesel pump.

Like I've said before, most (90%) of FIAT's ran on the CAV pump. This is actually the first one I saw with the Bosch pump on.

A new CAV pump with the the drive gear for it and 4 new injectors is R10 900.00.

Now my only concern is that all my timing marks was made for the pump I took off. I don't know what marks the new system will have and apparently a timing light only works with spark plugs........ On top of that the injection timing for the Bosch is 10 degrees BTDC and for the CAV it is 17 degrees BTDC. SO I'll have to figure that part out. Youtube I guess.

Ek wou nie negatief wees oor daai pomp nie. Maar hulle het nie meer parte nie. Cuv, of iets soos n nissan td27 pomp, maar dan moet jy van 3 gate na 2 gaan. N mitsibusi 3 ton lorrie pomp behoort net so te pas...

Maar ek sal net bybscrapyaed n nuwe model 640 pomp net so in drop.
