Yes......except allow you to talk/whatsapp and navigate all at the same time.

Phones don't multi task very well. Especially when you are driving and need to migrate between apps.

EDIT: and I still have to find even a rugged phone that can handle dashboard temperatures...........and don't tell me to use some stupid stick on cradle that then puts the phone outside of my Line Of Sight.

If you have the same problem as I had this what I did, I filed down a piece of plastic used in the glue gun to the right size and inserted it into the hole and put insulation tape over it to make it water proof, just not too tight other wise it switches on. I use it for canoeing but I do replace the insulation tape every six months just to make sure that it's intact and waterproof. I guess one could add a bit of silicon glue to the edges of the insert to seal it better but so far insulation tape does the trick.

Electronics products are consumables, accept it.
Try finding spares for a five year old notebook or smartphone.
Besides, who would want to use a 5 year old smartphone?

Depending on application. I still prefer my Garmin OR650 on a RAM mount when navigating gravel routes and trails on my MTB, than a mounted cellphone. (Same when hiking in the 'Berg etc)

I will also rather keep the cell phone in a more safe / secure place for backup, than to risk damaging it and to cut off a comms line.

I had the exact same issue with my Montana 600 early last year. Took it to Navworld in Durban. Actually they were in Mount Edgecombe. They said Garmin dont do repairs but would exchange it for a newer model at cost. I paid R2400 and got the new 680 Montana. Dont know why they not doing the same for you!

They could not even sell me a new strap, whats to say the "lussie"

And it is not even an old/discontinued product.

Me thinks it is Garmin SA that is so useless.

BTW, an O-ring solved my problem. As well as what to buy in future
Wife's Forerunner strap broke....sent unit to Jo'burg. Told discontinued...offered another unit.

They sent unit back as it was still serviceable. Got it back in a worse state and had to chuck it. Seems they tried to pry off the rubber casing instead of just saying sorry no repair possible.

And what do you do if you are in an area with no mobile phone reception? And what do you do if you have no data?

Offline maps, eg OSM etc. GPS (navigation) will still work.
