Default So I took the plunge

And started a business after finding both myself and wife without jobs during the lockdown. To boot, we found out wife's pregnant with the second one, so I had to pull out all the stops. I took an idea I had a few months ago and ran with it, and what I came up with is called a "fresh wort kit". Essentially a homebrewing solution for everyone - even the guys without any homebrewing equipment. My company name is The Lazy Hunter Brewery, and my website can be see here (I hope I'm allowed to post it here): https://lazyhunter.co.za/

In short, the kit comes as 20l of wort (unfermented beer), a packet of yeast and a pressure cap that acts as an airlock. You simply open the container, pour in the yeast and seal it with the pressure cap. After fermentation (about 10 days, often a lot quicker), you can bottle your 20l of beer and you're A for Away.

Because the kit contains no alcohol at the time of sale, there is no legal issues selling and moving these. The cost is R600 for 20l of wort, including the yeast and the cap. The wort also isn't "homemade", although I do still do homemade custom brews on request, but the pale ales I have in stock were made by none other than Brewhogs Microbrewery.

I've made 3,000l on Friday, and I'm halfway sold out as of this afternoon. If this keeps up I'm doing another batch next week. You can visit my website or send me a PM for more information. Hopefully this puts some beers in the hands of fellow members during this crazy time!

    Kindest of regards,
    Wynand Meijer
    The Lazy Hunter

I'm certainly ordering soon! What's the best way to store it once brewed? Could one buy glass bottles somewhere?

I tell people that plastic bottles work, but they're not idea. Something like regular soda bottles (empty coke bottles) works fine, you just need to keep the following in mind:

    1. Store them DARK. Beer goes off very quickly in light, and the clear plastic doesn't block out any of it.
    2. Drink them soon. Plastic is not the nicest thing to store a fermented beer in, so I always tell people to drink them within a month or three and you'll be good to go.
    3. Work clean. Super, super clean. Sanitize everything. But that goes for glass as well...

And thanks for the well wishes guys. Really appreciate it!

Well done and what a brilliant idea, wish I was still in Gauteng, I presume shipping to the Western Cape would be quite expensive.
