Default A-Frame towing New Suzuki Jimmy all grip 2020

    Morning all,
What are the limitations when towing a Jimmy all grip....
Is it harmful for the Jimmy as I intend flat towing on a A-frame behind camper.
    Any comments will be welcomed.
    Thanks
    Daan

Not to be done without removing rear propshaft or modifying rear axle with freewheel hubs. Both transfer case and main gearbox back driven in neutral can be damaged due to lack of lubrication.

Actually just looked at Gen3 Jimny rear axle and freewheel hubs is near impossible. So rear propshaft removal it is., or like in an older thread https://www.4x4community.co.za/forum...02#post3900402 a dog clutch. You can actually read that whole thread for the info. https://www.4x4community.co.za/forum...wing-the-Jimny

Get a propshaft nut socket, rechargeable impact drill, correct size ratchet spanner and a torque wrench. You''ll be able to pop that sucker on and off in no-time.

New Jimny has a Nutral selection on transfercase, and can be flat towed, have a look in your owners manual for exact details.

Fearl3SS, could you perhaps copy or refer the relevant pages from the owners manual?
I have a .pdf copy for the new Gen4 Jimny and do not see any mention of neutral in the transfer case (see owners manual Page 3-16 to 3-22). It also clearly says that "If you need to have your vehicle towed, contact a professional service. A SUZUKI dealer can provide you with detailed towing instructions. " and further on "Do not tow your vehicle with the rear wheels directly on the ground (and the transmission in neutral). If you do, the transmission will be damaged fatally." (Pages 7-6 to 7-7) However, further on Pages 7-7 to 7-8 they say it can be flat towed (all 4 wheels on the ground) with the front hubs unlocked and transmission in neutral IF THE ENGINE IS RUNNING (i.e. you let the engine idle while towing).

There is no neutral position on the 2018+ Jimny's transfer case.

There you go. you read the owners manual.
and even highlighted it now for everyone should this question come up again..

Thanks for explaining this to the rest of us.

Thus flat towing it is a bad Idea. unless you do some mods.

And yet, one sees numerous Jimny's being towed behind motorhomes. Spoke to 43 (!) motor home caravaners during their annual get-together at a caravan site outside Warmbaths end last year. All of them, bar 4, had Jimny's behind - one even a new generation All Grip with (according to them all) no problems or modifications at all?

When you check the comments on Caravanparks.com, there are many cases of people who have towed in excess of 50 000 kilometres with their Jimny's ....... ? Obviously not all new, but many of the later models??

    Just my 2c.
