    Default Fortuner upgrades

    Morning chaps.

I take delivery of my 2.8 GD6 4x4 Fortuner next week and need some advice on a few things pls.

I dont need the 3rd row of seats but do need a fridge slide for my 90l National Luna. I have a slide that I built into my Grand Cherokee so may tweek this but would ideally like to purchase a slide thats bespoke for the Fortuner. What are you guys using?

Secondly a steel bumper is on my list but I don't see many examples of these. Any suggestions?

Finally, what is the largest size tyre i can go on the std 17 inch rim without messing with the gearing and trimming arches etc?

    Many thanks
    Jayson

I see you are in WC - I would consider giving Charl at Rockshokers a call for the bumper. He might even be able to help you with a fridge slide.

How sure are you your fortuner has 17" rims? ...AFAIK all the 2.8 came out with 18"...unless you are asking because you are changing?

...checkout Hilux Accessory Shop (Morne) and also Dean Morritt on FB...you will find some nice things there for your fortuner!!

    Enjoy it!

    God bless

We have Big Country fridge slide which fits the 74l National Luna. They offer different sizes. We found the Big Country slides to be the sturdiest with the slimmest design.

Curious, why the steel bumper? Are you planning serious trails?

    Thanks for the replies Gents.

The rims are certainly 17", seems they went 18" after 2016. I checked this twice.

The front steel bumper is more of a cosmetic addition...i hate the look of the bottom part of the front grill. In addition they are great in the dunes.

Any pics of fridge slides plsssss.

    Thanks boys

You will need to compare the dimensions with that of you fridge.

    Hi Jayson

In terms of mods it depends on what you want to do with the vehicle.

    Is it Auto or Manual?

Any reason why you would want to fit bigger tyres?

I would stick to 265/65R17 which you most likely have. Think you might have to do some mods to get 265/70R17 to fit. Adjusting the castor or something (have heard from 1 person doing this). Bigger tyres will influence your fuel consumption.

If you want to fit a steel bumper you will have the following options:
    ARB
    Wilddog
    RAD
    Hamer
    Rhino
    Onca
    There might be more...

Remember that when you fit a bumper you will need to change the front suspension. You can maybe fit a spacer, but I am not a fan of this. Rather do it the right way...

Also consider why you need it? I have never had the need to change the front bumper for the trails I do. If I now have to add a front bumper I will again need to change the front coils to Medium duty (currently have light duty which gave a lift). With a bumper etc I will have to spend more than 20,000 which I cannot justify.

If you are afraid of the bumper in the Dunes I would suggest to first change the suspension as this will prevent you from Nose diving when you hit a dune.

If you are going to do trails you can consider fitting rock sliders. This is where I get the most bumps.

This is my opinion. Hope it helps.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, really helpful!

I think what I may do is get the fridge slide sorted 1st, cold beers are a must!

It sounds as though there is little merit in messing with the tyres too.

That wild dog bumper is exactly what i am looking for, wow!!!

Thanks for that price indication JWR. Its a bit stiff but I will go and inspect it from close up, it looks quite decent on picture.

Very nice; if I may ask; what roof rack and any under body protection?
