    Default Digitale battery tester

My Discovery seemed to crank just that midget slower this morning and this got me thinking: is it worth investing in something like this:

Don't you think cranking your engine to start it is a good enough test for your battery?

If you get any strange fault codes popping up you know itís time for a new battery. D4s donít like tired batteries

Type of tool that only makes sense if you're in the car battery business. (Frequency of use)

Not digital but cheap enough for once in a while testing. All the battery shops I visited to have car battery tested use this type.

I voltmeter permanently on at R50 that indicates the cranking volts IS a good tester. As long as the reading is above about 9.5V the battery is sound. Any deviation from the normal reading would tell you the battery is getting weaker.

The very cold mornings I found my diesel Freelander started dipping below 10V but still good for about 18months I would guess.

99% of batteries can be opened. The lids are under the sticker. The electrolyte can be tested with a hydrometer which shows good bad and ugly or calibrated with figures. A bad cell with a short will show up visually with bubbles rising when you switch on your lights on high or start
