Default Cape Town vehicle licence renewals

Guys, I'm at wit's end. I am not prepared to stand in mile long queues wasting hours and the Eservices is so useless, they just do not even respond.....state stays "processing"

I am going thru the same process, up to now had great service (have done 3x vehicles ytd) but my current one is slow, but a gent has just answered me, apologised for the delay and he is working on it.

It seems they had a backlog as a few of the licensing depots had to close up for COVOID decontamination.

There are no arrears penalties at the moment, so maybe give them till next week?

As far as I'm aware, all license renewals, for vehicles and drivers licenses, have been extended to end of January 2021 ?

I have renewed with my vehicles via the the CoCT online website three years in an row, always received the licenses in the post.

But, if your license expired during the 1st three months of this Chinese Flu hysteria, why worry.
You have until November to renew.

And reapply via the online CoCT portal.
There was announcements made to the effect on Kfm the other day.

My wife tried to do registration at the civic centre last week, as that was one of the few places that processed them. Unfortunately ours vehicles needs registration and not just a license disc renewal.
The license offices is a disaster right now. There were people queuing with numbers from the previous day. And after about 4hrs she has not even entered the building & she gave up. Since then I found a place that handles the registration on your behalf, similar to the registration places in Gauteng...
I'll update you on how it goes once I have completed my registration through them...

I was just made aware that license renewals are possible with your FNB APP "NAV>>"

There is an admin fee of about R200. Well worth it, especially as they deliver it to your door. Let's see how long this takes

My MIL's vehicle license expired last month.

She got a R600 fine this morning.

Isn't there a extension for renewal?

Cop said there is no such thing.

Extended until next year. She mustn’t pay the fine.

JFH motor vehicle licenses that expired between 26 March 2020 and 31 May 2020 have been extended to 31 August 2020. If last month means 30 June 2020, then it falls outside the aforementioned period, but who knows. 30 June 2020 expiries may be included in the next extension.

I have been doing it online here in Cape Town for a number of years now, works perfectly well.
The Covid thing did mess with it, and the process does take a bit longer at present, but I did get my trailer license in the post today

if you have an friend with a car dealership/car sales man. arrange with him to do it for you.
they need to stand in the queues anyway for transfers.

I registered two weeks ago, got approval last week, paid, and just waiting for the delivery. When registering make sure you complete it correctly. Much better than standing in a queue

Online renewals, have been doing this for years but what they seem to be doing lately is you have to pay on the same day they send the email. So you have to watch your email like a hawk. Also if you have to queue and are over 60 there is a pensioner's queue.

Does anyone have an idea of the cost of renewal and how late renewal penalties are calculated?
Mine expired in December (ya ya ya I forgot about it) so I am 3 months late (Pre covid) and got a price of just under R1300 for the outlander.
Seems excessive or does that sound correct?

    One more thing:
I did the online renewal via eservices which now shows 'in process' then got an email for payment which doesn't show on the eservices portal. Last time I did this the process was a bit different I think. Is the email legit?

Yes the email is legit. You get a reference number on the email which you should use. City of Cape Town will be a preloaded beneficiary on you internet banking.

I have renewed my license last year and this year using this method. Currently waiting on them to email me the details for my Fortuner renewal.

So you should not have to enter an bank account number.

Just remember that in your case you are not 3 months behind. You are actually now 8 months behind. The extention is only for licenses that expired during the lockdown period.

How does COCT deliver the license to you these days when you do the on line thing?

I attempted the process about 3 or 4 years ago. I suppose part of the problem was a license that expired on 31 December. Did the COCT e-services thing on about 03rd or 4th of Jan, paid within a day or 2 and then the big wait started. The license was eventually delivered by the Post Office during the second week of March. Delivery was via Post Office
