    Default July Brekkie Run V2.0

    Greetings

Due to the current circumstances and my particularly short fuse with authority, an alternative to the Parys Dirt Road Run has been tabled by Shady.

He has gone out and done a Recce and provided the attached.

It is off the R21 in Glen Marais.

Please let us have your thoughts and who will be interested.

Shady, please feel free to add.

Circled 2 = Black Cotton Disaster Bog Hole

Circled 3 = School Camp Ground/Brekkie Pique Nique area

    Sure, I'm game.

What is the brunch idea? Do we bring whatever, and is there a cost?

Always self catering so if you dont like the grub, you only have yourself to blame

AFAIK, no charge. Shady? Just your fuel, wear n tear, recovery fees, insurance excess.......... you know, the usual

At this stage, the church camp ground is still a work in progress Im afraid...
Will see what I can organise, otherwise there are one or two other options in the area, but that might come at a small fee

If possible, can we please get an indication on who is coming on Sunday, to see if we should have it, or if we should postpone for a more suitable time.

The plan at this stage, is to meet at Riverfields coffee shop at about 8am for coffee, a vehicle check, and a last pitstop (See pic)

From there, travel in convoy to the track which is just down the road, where the route will take us over about 20 obstacles ranging from softroader friendly , to 1 or 2 that I'll be avoiding with the escape routes.
After this, we'll take a sand road out into farmlands, which involves an easy river crossing and eventually end up at a tuft of trees in the middle of nowhere at another river crossing which I'm not going to try.

On the other side of this , is another great play place with multiple obstacles which may challenge some. But to get there, we will have to go around. (Except for those mentally challenged who want to try go through...) Going around though, would involve one uphill obstacle which itself will be a challenge purely because of a rock halfway up that will need to be removed. (See pic) But Johnny says he has a spade and is prepared to use it ) (see pic)

If we can remove that rock and get to the other side, we can setup there with some camp chairs and skottle braais, while we wait to see who wants to attempt the muddy crossing...

On another note, if it does go ahead, I'll be bringing the new Defender to come play if anyone wants to come see it in action

And if anyone wants to bring a drone, its also the perfect place as its far away from built up areas, and just past the 10km mark straight line distance from the airport.

Ok, that is a bit funny.

I am also wondering if it's still on or not.

    No, nothing shady about it...

Was hoping for more responders. But it looks like we are only between 3 and 5 cars.

With two being soft roaders, perhaps I'll leave the new Defender safely at home and bring my softie rather.

Pm me your numbers and we'll start a WhatsApp group.

As for the track with all the obstacles and the river crossing , I dont know who the land belongs to, but its not fenced in, and there's no signs saying private property. It used to be an old motorcross track. But all the land around there belongs or used to belong to the Erasmus's farm Witfontein. So it's probably theirs too...

But lots of people that live in Serengeti and the Estate that I am in, go walk their dogs and ride bikes all over there, so I'm pretty sure anyone can go.
