Somewhere on Youtube there is a video of Ronny Dahl testing recovery tracks.

I think the cheaper ones do have their place.I would invest in proper Maxtrax and then use these as a 2nd set. (Backup if you need tracks under all 4 wheels).

For much less than Maxtrax why not get TRED Pro? Also made in Australia, not China and do some research and you'll see why they come highly recommended.

    There you go.

I will buy the cheapies if I can get hold of it. You seldom use them, if they break you get new ones. Same as a winch, very few people ever have to use one. Many ways to recover a stuck vehicle.

These are the same price as the Maxtrax though?

Think the TRED is made or distributed by ARB. Hence the price.

When I bought my TREDS, they were Half the price of Maxtrax.

    Brilliant product.

They are the same price now, if not slightly more.

If you need those, your tyres are too hard. Those are for people who do not have a clue.

Get 2 pieces of old carpet, 3m long, 40cm wide, will work much better than those.

Unless you must have everything, then buy them.

I watched a test done by 4x4 Australia on Youtube yesterday. Both versions of Maxtrax and the new heavy duty Trend product did well. The others not so well. So what would I buy... probably the cheaper Maxtrax.

I live in Namibia and have had way more experience in sand driving than most. Driven to meob bay and back 5 times, worked as a surveyor in the southern namib.
In all my sand driving years I have never seen these things used or needed.
Those bright colors look great mounted on the side of your vehicle though. But unfortunately it is a flag highlighting your inexperience as well.

Some of us have loads of experience driving mud and rocks. I once drove through a mud hole in an open diff Landy past 2 stuck vehicles to recover them. Recovered both at once. Not because their vehicles were crap, they just didnt have a clue. Same as I dont have a clue to drive sand. First attempt will be towing a 1 ton brick across the kalahari, so I'm happy to pack recovery tracks and look inexperienced. Better than getting stuck without it, thats just amateur.

Is the idea then to label such colourful tracks appropriately with big black letters - "for mud use only"

Sorry, I am on a p1ssed off day. I am prepared to eat my words.
Yes I think a small sticker to say sand tracks, only to be used in mud would suffice.
