Default OVERLAND REPORT: SUDAN via EAST AFRICA, 2015/6. SLOW DONKEY.

Trip report, blog and photos for our overland trip 2015 to Sudan and back via East Africa.

For what it’s worth, my quiet time during lockdown has not been completely wasted. My Slow Donkey website and blog have been down now for a couple of years after a disagreement with the service provider. I continue to receive requests for copies of my blog from our trans-East African trip of 2015. A copy was posted on this forum at
    https://www.4x4community.co.za/forum...Weakley/page16
    From post no 315

However, that never was satisfactory, as the “live” blog posts needed a bit of polishing and updating. Also, the click-to-enlarge thumbnail photos were small-sized copies and not enlargeable. I have managed to now download all the full-size photos and have captured the entire blog and all the photos on these PDFs. I have used multiple smaller documents to shorten downloading time of each section.

Although the blog is now almost 5 years old, I have updated and revised relevant facts and it is surprising how little of substance has actually changed. With lockdown and travel restrictions hopefully due to disappear by the end of the year, I would like to think that some people are thinking of doing such a trip, I know that we certainly are. I hope that the Slow Donkey blog or trip report will be of interest and of assistance to them. I also trust that some enthusiasts will simply enjoy taking the time to retrace our trip. Unless you are actually planning such a trip, you might want to give the first PDF a miss, it is all about planning and preparations.

    Enjoy the ride!

Still traveling north, next is wonderful Kenya. NOTE: a large section of Kenya is covered in our south bound leg and is in PDF 29.

Stan - This is great! Thank you for your efforts. Though not the same scale as you, I also have been going through my old blog and reediting, fixing, and adding some new photos. It is a lot of work, and so I really can appreciate the effort you've put into your new updates.

We are bitten by the bug, and are for sure planning more bigger trips. Since our 2018 SA-Kenya-SA trip that was only three months we've made a few (3?) five week trips, but we are really itching for a longer trip further north. Whenever this COVID thing stabilizes I'll figure out something with my employer, and I will be pouring over your reports for details into a more thorough exploration up north.

    Thanks again!

    Thanks a lot, Stan!

Your Slow Donkey trip report/blog was (and stil is) in fact a prime resource of reliable info for many of similar or shorter overlanding trip plannings. Many of us appreciate your willingness to share your experiences, knowing how much work and time is built into recording and maintaining such a collection of first hand info to share.

That was a monumental trip for you two, and even a greater feast of ideas and plans for us, who followed your tracks. I'm sure there will be similar trips for you in the future, and I for one am looking forward very much to follow your ramblings.
