Guy's, on a serious note though, especially now to Nys. Stick to the 285's and a "standard" lift. Especially for the application which you will be using it for. My mods are for purpose, the vehicle is used as a work tool, not just a holiday vehicle. I don't tow anything and very very rarely do long stretches on tar etc.

For the work it has to do etc the big lift etc is needed, if the vehicle was purely for holiday and overlanding etc I would definately be on smaller tyres and less lift etc.

That cruiser of your's is perfect the way it is, don't mess with it too much.

Ja, maar sal hy ry waar jy ry

In all honesty, the Treg is awesome and CAN go where I want to go, but you still sit with this feeling of “what if” all the time. Not breakdowns, that will happen, but breaks, period. A while ago I followed my mate in his 100 series V8 and I could climb where he couldn’t due to lack of difflock, but that cost me 8k geingobs since I damaged the radar cruise control censor.

So this will be my holiday and play car. Will not do too many long distance trips without the Bush Lapa in tow. For those quick and long distance runs, the Treg will stand in

    Congrats Gert!

Their is a very interesting video by 4WD247 on youtube on suspension lifts and what happens if you do lift the vehicle.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vk8WOXSFA14

The one guy has a 80 Series with a 3inch lift. He had a 4inch lift but went down to 3. He feels the vehicle is just as capable but more stable.

If you lift more that 2inch you need to consider all kinds of other modifications.

Nys this is my exact experience. I were on numerous 4x4 trips where vehicles picked up costly damage. It has nothing to do with vehicle capability but they way they are build. I have seen guys walking away with serious damage to a ML, Prado, GD6 Hilux to name a few. One needs that extra protection of aftermarket bumpers.

I am sure you will enjoy the Cruiser. Skrapie op hom gaan darem nie so seer maak as op daardie fancy Touareg nie

Agree, my initial lift was about 6" all round, looked cool etc but was too much. Final set-up now 3" in front and 4" in rear. Still requires a lot of stuff you need to change and also your driving style has to change.

The lift on nys's cruiser is fine. I would just swop the running boards for sliders and add a bash plate.
As grips mentioned it will go where you need it to go and if it picks up a scratch that's just added character. Mine is full of character but thats part of the game.

Yes, even a d4d hilux. Not a farm bakkie anymore, like the bull nose one. With that thing you could drive into a dune's steep side without issues.

With a dune trip we did a guy had something like N$80 000 damages to his V10 Tuareg, by approaching a dune just a little bit too fast.

this is where a sfa makes a huge difference, also had mates with front end damage (ifs) on the same dune where my sfa went up with zero issues

as for lift, with a castor correction the Cruiser is very stable, i am also sitting on 3 inch lift with zero problems, i do have heavy duty coils, so if Cruiser is empty and tyres hard, it is a bit more bouncy but nothing serious, still travels very comfortably at 120 and above.

oh i also added one of those self correcting steering dampers recently, just because i wanted to know.

now it might be a function of my setup, but at this stage i am not sure if it is needed, possibly an option if you don't have caster correction

The RTC steering damper is more aimed at big wheels and heavy terrain. Does make easier to drive, have similair on mine. But if lifting over 2.5" castor correction is highly advisable. Then depending on vehicle there is still panhard rods, trail arms, prop spacers, anti-roll bar spacers.

    Haha. Ja

My Pa het n permit en moet dalk in elk geval Vrydag in gaan Swakop toe. Sal sien
