VW electronic hand brake probably has a emergency release like Land Rover D3/D4. I know Mercedes has an emergency release for the park brake on the gear box, never seen it on VW let alone the emergency electronic hand brake release.

I had a failure of an EGR valve actuator and VW replaced it under Warranty. I got the old part back, cleaned it and serviced the mechanism and it was good as new.

Sometimes the actuator coils can fail as well so it is not always just the relay, although it would be the first point of failure in the steering lock. And if the steering is locked in place means that the Gearbox park cannot release and often you cannot even get the car to accessory on state in order to manipulate the ECU modules with a computer.

I wish the part a speedy transit without hassles. Hopefully they don't quarantine the parcel for 10 days
My Disco 4 also has an emergency manual release to get the gearbox out of Park into Neutral. I had to use this recently to tow the vehicle out of the garage to enable a flat battery to be jumpstarted. This is located in the same compartment as the cable for the Emergency handbrake release.

For T1 and T2 fairly simple to get out of park - probably same for T3. Pry away the trim around gear shifter, it just clips in - just take care like with all trim pieces. In the front of the gear shifter (radio side) there is a small red tab, push to the right with a screwdriver and pop the lever into neutal. You cannot put it back in park as you will have to do the procedure again, apply handbrake, wait for flatbed

Bought myself a 2007 Prado. Had it vetted by reliable mechanic. Sits weeks on end. Used for holidays and high days. Get in turn the key and hey presto. Did a road trip of 5600km never once a hiccup. What you spend fixing on your VW I spend on holiday. No brainer.

Funny hey, smile & wave boet, smile & wave.

In the short time I have been on the VW section I have found all the Touareg owners extremely friendly and helpful, so these kind of posts are actually quite amusing. At least my car is white so I probably score some bonus points there!

OK, she is up and running. After 6 weeks, the steering-lock-actuater arrived from Germany. A quick plug and play , programming and that was it. All cars nowadays have complicated devises that can go haywire. We all brag with how advance our wheels are due to these cleaver devises.
I expect the bill to be around R5000. Much less than what was expected.
Interesting was that the pairing (new device into the cars safety system)needed to be done at the dealership's wi-fi and not from my home wifi network. A safety feature working on the IP address to ensure authenticity. Well done VW
