    Default What adhesive?

I have to attach lengths of rubber strip (8mm thick, 50mm wide) to one side of hot dipped galvanized angle iron rails.
What adhesive is best for this application?

Initially I thought of using contact adhesive but it seems that contact adhesive does not work that well adhering to hot dipped galvanized surfaces.

    Advice and comments please.

Get " Sticks like ####" - pretty sure it will work if it sticks porcelain to cement and polycarbonate to steel.

    Thanks Mike.
That looks like the proper solution.
Iíll find out about compatibility with HDG but it seems as if it should be OK.

Also look at using a primer, apparently makes a huge difference to the adhesion

We used to wash HDG with pool acid - it removes any waxes and reacts with the zinc, then rinse, dry, prime with etch primer before painting. I would do the same before relying on any adhesive. Except glue instead of paint.

Gloves, good ventilation ....blah blah blah.

Is the rubber there as a simple barrier or are there shear forces which may try to strip it off. The thing with rubber is that the glue should contain a solvent which softens and penetrates the surface, else you are farting against thunder. That rules out all or most of the cellulose/acrylic based compounds, including, most probably, Sticks Like Sh!eeT

I think your best bet is going to be a professional Cyanoacrylate. Not you Supermarket 9g tube of SuperGlue knockoffs. SIKA are also bound to have a suitable product. What works for me is phoning the glue companies Customer Service Help Line.

Cold vulcanizing adhesive - available at most suppliers of rubber products.
