It is mostly due to the amount of people going there on the day and the Matroosberg staff will have to manage the entries into/onto the property. The time I was there, it took a long time because of the amount of people in the queue paying for entries, Also, it is due to the amount of time it will take to get to the top following other cars and there is only a limited amount of time to go up, I think (as pointed out already) the trails opens for downwards/homebound traffic at 13:00 so you want as much time at the top as possible before you venture down and home. No vehicles will be allowed to go up the trails if they are not going to be at the top by 13:00.
mostly because the trail is only one way...you do not want to cause a traffic jam...

Do they have a new WhatsApp group?
Didi mentioned they will only be communicating via their FB page. Their WhatsApp group has been quiet for a while, think she last posted on 2 July.

From the WA group: ďGood day all snow chasers.
At 3am tomorrow morning I will update on ground level snow. If there is no ground level snow I will go up the mountain to give a proper snow report to 4x4 drivers. Speak to again tomorrow morning. In the meantime keep warm and keep safe.Ē

I don't feel so bad, we'll be 2 two newbies then! I'll be in the silver ranger. I'll take my rod holders off though so don't look for those as in the pic previously! Its crazy what a difference those things make on open road consumption!

The Van der Polls are waiting in the departure lounge, food and water packed, and ready to board at 05h50 for a prompt 06h00 departure from Langeberg Ridge. Which route are you guys driving? Through the tunnel or round the back?

Then youíre just around the corner from me. Iím in Sonstraal heights.

Iím not sure which route we will be taking. Probably tunnel on the way there, and whichever way the wind blows on the way back. We also aim to leave between 5:30 and 6.

This is obviously if the WhatsApp at 3am is a go for snow.

Will also be my first time heading up the mountain, so letís see whatís in store for us.

So the queue is very long already and chances are they wonít open the 4x4 trail due to heavy snow

ďThere's a possibility that the 4x4 trail will not be open to the top as the snow is really thick. We are working on opening up the trail but it does take time.Ē

Thanks for the update. I decided to rather go tomorrow. It does sound promising

Nice to meet you Rivar, pity we couldn't wheel our way up together. That Jimny is a monster in the flesh! Great job fella! Thanks again for letting me use your deflator, I want one! Beats a matchstick and a gauge any day!

We ended up going down the 4x2 trail to get the kids into some snow before they killed each other. The wait for the main trail was just getting too long and it was closed at the top apparently.
