    Default Matroosberg 11/12 July

    Hi Guys,

Are any of you considering a run to the snow this weekend?

I am taking the kids but I see the Ceres area still has some rain predicted for Saturday, less than Thur/Fri. Sunday is predicted sunny or Partly cloudy dependent on the app you check.

Since the only stupid question is the one not asked.......

Which day would you go? Saturday or Sunday? I am driving from Durbanville area so its still a short hop regardless of which day. I will have the wife and two kids with me to go a play in the snow!

    Thanks in advance!

    Stay Safe
    Craig

    Hi,

We are also going. Looking at going on Saturday. Yr is showing snow till 12pm on Saturday with temperatures well below zero. Sunday looks like very cold but no more snow. It could change but I think Sat looks most promising.

Best to have a look at the rain/snow forecast on windy.com - heavy snow only predicted for Monday afternoon, light snow before then.

I'm also from Durbanville and also want to go. Last time there were talks of snow fall (end of June), I ended up not going on the last minute after I heard of rainfall in Ceres and I made the right decision - will do the same and only decide on the day.

Keeping a close eye on the weather reports. Also requested to be added to the WA SNOW group.

Maybe we all could leave Durbanville together?

    Nice ride!

I'll be in a silver Ranger Double cab about as standard as it comes off the show room floor with some roof racks added for my fishing rod holders! LOL!

What time are you guys planning to leave. I pre-booked so hopefully will shorten the pain of getting in.

Craig, nice ranger. It looks like you have the Continental Cross Contact A/T tyres on there so not quite the normal road tyres (actually one of the best all round A/T tyres out there). I also have them on my Pajero and they have taken me through all sorts of harsh terrain without problems except they flake on tar in town. No A/T will be as good as a mud terrain on snow but it will be waaaaay better than your run of the mill showroom tyre so we are in the same boat.

Now I know what rides to look out for!

This will be my first time going up. I assume you guys leave that time for a reason? Or is it just about the light and temperature?

I have been there a few times but it will also be my first time up the trail (I've driven snow in the Karoo on the farm near Compasberg). Few of the friends joining have done it.

They close the trail access at 11am sharp. To have a reasonable chance of getting up high and avoid the masses you want to be there early as possible.

Please correct me if I am wrong, haven't been there in years

It is mostly due to the amount of people going there on the day and the Matroosberg staff will have to manage the entries into/onto the property. The time I was there, it took a long time because of the amount of people in the queue paying for entries, Also, it is due to the amount of time it will take to get to the top following other cars and there is only a limited amount of time to go up, I think (as pointed out already) the trails opens for downwards/homebound traffic at 13:00 so you want as much time at the top as possible before you venture down and home. No vehicles will be allowed to go up the trails if they are not going to be at the top by 13:00.
