The queues were horrible and the organizational skills lacking. It seems like they werenít prepared for the crowds. And this is what I said on another group:

But it was a mess yesterday. I got to the queue just before 8 and by 12:30 I wasnít at the base of the mountain yet. I get that the weather is unpredictable but the organizational skills were lacking. Part of the problem is people that have absolutely no 4x4 skill, take their big expensive 4x4 into the snow and get stuck, which meant tractors had to pull them out. I was not impressed at all and a waste of R1000. Iíll wait till there is snow at ground level and can pull over on the side of the road.

Sadly, that ruined an otherwise nice day trip out.

This pic is of the queue behind me. We had already been standing for an hour and moved about 10m.

Must agree with this. Went a previous year. Stood in the hour for very long just to pay. Once paid, we then found out there's another q to start going up the trail. An hour later, still waiting we decided to leave as we couldn't wait much longer to start going up. Tried to get a refund as we didn't even start going up, was refused as "we entered private property". They are very happy to take the cash. Toilet were terrible, think there was only two that we could identify, and the Q's were just as long.

I get that there's an influx of people. But then surely something like a daily limit would make it more comfortable for everyone in attendance? Also, provide some decent toilet facilities, you know people flock there when the snow comes.

My 2c. Doubt I will try them again, much more enjoyable when there's ground level snow.

There were 3 toilets this time, a shorter queue but they were clean. I will give them that much.

Apparently there is another place close by where you could also go for the snow. It is called Merino Farm. I haven't been there yet, but a couple of people on an Whatsapp group went there and they were very happy. R350 entry per vehicle. Seems there is no additional fee per person though.

Iíve been up the mountain for the past two years and have never experiences this type of delays: I would areive at 09:00, wait a few minutes to pay and immediately head out to the trail. I also believe it depends on your timing- this year the timing is not good.
