Default Does it overheat: Compressor 180 Litre Per Minute in Ammo Box

Hi everyone, I recently became the owner of a 2010 Fortuner D4D 4x4 and would like to purchase a good air compressor for the vehicle.

    I saw this: https://4x4direct.co.za/tyre-care/92...110661683.html
It is built into an ammo box and it looks quite decent. Anyone with experience with it as it seems like it might overheat inside the enclosure?

Otherwise, any other air compressor recommendations?

    Thanks !

FIL has one, pumped up a few tyres in succession without any overheating. It's a good solid pump. Just check the pipe fittings after use, you can almost weld with them, they get very hot.

Each time I do business with 4x4 Direct, I get more respect for their "branded" products (and the service I get at Montana branch)

I use that pump for 33's.
I connect it to an Indeflate and pump up two tyres at once to around 2.4 Bar no problem.

Wanted an ARB twin, was told to try this first. I cant complain.

I have often pumped up 8x tyres from around 0.8.
    So far, no problems.

Has not cut out on me yet.

I eventually bought one and so far no complaints. Very good build quality and the the pipe which comes with is a proper compressor rubber pipe with proper fittings. 5/5

Sorry to be doubting Thomas here.

These compressors pretty much all have some type of soft polymer seal between the piston and the cylinder. And all these materials will suffer damage at or before 250 degrees C. If you get this seal to those types of temperatures, it's life will be shortened, probably significantly. This does not lead to sudden failure, but it does lead to the piston seal by-passing, and thus your compressor becomes less efficient until it eventually just runs and runs without actually pumping any air. Also keep in mind that this seal is doing pretty much all the work, and thus is the single hottest component in the compressor.

Your compressor can be failing long before the motor ever cuts out, and if you pump it until the fitting joining the air hose to the compressor gives you a blister when you disconnect it, you have definitely damaged your compressor.

When running a compressor, periodically feel how hot the head is getting, and if it feels like it's going to burn you, give the poor thing a rest.

And any other negatives a few months later? Looks like a nice addition to the kit.
