    Default Gd6: Decent Control

    Hi Guys...

    Me again...learning a lot about this gd6...

Today my son and I took the hilux on a 4x4 track...approaching a steep decline I pushed the DECENT CONTROL button to see how it works...but the hilux 'ran away'...

So how does this system work...or how is it supposed to work?

    Thanks and God bless

It has to be in 1st gear low range for it to work... and you must NOT touch any of the pedals on the decent otherwise it cancels out.

    Hope this helps

As far as I know it only operates under 30km/h, and only in 4WD (high or low range), and with the rear differential lock disabled.

    What is the manual saying?
Maybe get to know your vehicle's systems before trying it in the wild for the first time.

PS : There is also other valuable information in it, eg the diesel fuel type to use etc.

I have tested mine a few times (vehicle has always been in 4WD when using the DAC and I have tried it in both H4 and L4).

I come to a stop after just putting the front wheels over the crest of the hill. Then while the vehicle is stationary, I activate the DAC and take my foot off the brake pedal.
Vehicle then does its own controlled descent.

Trev, make sure the DAC light is on before taking your foot off the brake. I had the vehicle "run away" before after thinking I had pushed the button in properly only to find I had not and the DAC light was not showing on the display.

The system is rather smart. I have noticed the following and I use it a lot on farms when going down long declines.

A - It works in high or low range

B - It holds at the speed you engage it at. On longer less steep declines I engage it say at 25km/h and it keeps it there. If you want to it to hold you at 10km/h engage it at 10km/h. Works like a charm, wish the V8 cruisers had it as an option.

...is there something wrong asking the people who know...and are also more than happy to share their knowledge?
