What are your thoughts about Knysna, several properties on the market dating from the time of the fire, could be good in the market?
South side of the lagoon also looks nice, looking North with a view over the water. Private hospital in the area, fishing, Karoo is close ..

    Talking about hospitals ...

I imagine there are a few members on the forum who are not on private health care plans. The George Provincial hospital is world class, it may be busy but the facilities and services are fantastic.
The WC govt continually invests in expanding facilities and accommodation for staff (attracts top medical staff) making this regional hospital a gem.

A comment at the beginning of the post said that house prices go up 50% over Christmas ... fake news deluxe.
There might be the odd chancer selling private property but if you have a semblance of intelligence you would work that out very quickly.

Definitely a lovely place. Each town has its own character, so if Knysna tickles your fancy, go for it.

    Some pro's (from my perspective):
    • Beautiful and lots of character
    • Many options for an active life style, especially if you like water sports
    • More cosmopolitan with more international tourists than other towns

    A few con's:
    • You cannot avoid the nightmare traffic over Christmas
    • A bit claustrophobic with high hills all around (very subjective)

A good friend of me had a house in dana bay.according to him,he sold the house because of the winds blowing there.sometimes for a week.so yes, think twice and do your homework by phoning some of the owners there.

Hearsay is normally B.S. If you want to live anywhere on the coast, expect to have wind.
Btw, please tell us where the friend is living now and if it is indeed wind free.

Bought a house earlier this year in Monte Christo (Hartenbos) and plan to move down permanently in the next few years. Like the idea of not too close to the see but still have a great view over Hartenbos and Mosselbay (And the see).

we are also going to retire on the garden route, bought 2 stands years ago, just sold the one in Outeniquastrand & going to build in Dana Bay.

Reason: quicker to access shops, doctors etc. in Mossel Bay, easier to build, price wise cheaper in Dana Bay (stands, houses), and a bit quiter in December.

I check the wind on windy.com every day and cannot find any significant difference between Dana Bay and other areas that close to the sea.

Oh and yes, we have designed a house that has two braai areas with sea views, one will be in an inner court yard where the wind won't bother us whilst putting a vleisie on the coals

You going to luv Danabaai, we have been here for 12 years. The light breeze from the sea in summer makes the heat bearable. We are close to Mossel bay and Langeberg mall and out of the busy holiday rush. Oh and a great seaview :-)
