Many moons ago while holidaying in Glentana a local told us that it is one of two places in the southern hemisphere (other one somewhere along the Aus coast) where you don't get the nightly / early morning fog / moisture residue settling on surfaces.
    Any truth in this?

Wildernis is one of our favorite vacation places is SA, its a nice half way sleep over stop on the way to PE.

Can see myself retiring in Hoekwil, quite but still close to George for shopping and medical care.

So witjin 50 ks from GEORGE with a sea view is the deciding factor , And the closer to the beach would be a bonus
We are planning to use the Xmas shutdown to go view some houses , aware not the best time to do so , but our only time . Can just hop on a plane and go . Buying new would save the transfer fees , but what we have seen is new developments , far from the beach and tends to be on the small side , and most of the time only 1 garage , we need min a double as we have toys to park
please make some suggestions where to go look

Then on a similar note , need some suggestions as to the best route down , pit stop , and then accommodation. MY PLAN ... Will be riding down by bike , N1 Bloem , Colesburg , Graaff Reinet ( pitstop ) next day to George via Oudtshoorn. and on to final destination .
We will need a 2 night stop , xmas & boxing day , then 3 days to view houses , then make our way back home . Was thinking to return via PE , Hogsback , Aliwal North ( pitstop ) home vie Bloem .
I like Wilderness , but from previous trips , Xmas day is a dead day there and nothing is open. Similar with New years eve . We end up having a drink in our room . Suggestions please .
In the Mossel Bay area I wouldn't do Danabaai, depending on size needs and budget rather look at Mossel Bay Central and Santos.
Then you can also look at Bay view and Hartenbos.

Lived in Herolds Bay for 4 years.

Great neighbourhood. Gets nice and lively and happy over December Holidays. We lived on top of the hill, not a lot of rust but it is heavier than in town, but not as heavy as at the beach itself.

Now live in central George. No rust/moisture issues. Been in George central for 3 years. Almost 8 in total in the Garden Route.

What I enjoy most of George compared to Boksburg are:

    1. Much less traffic
    2. Quick to go anywhere
    3. Municipal services work and respond fairly quick.

I would not mind settling anywhere from North between Sedgefield and Knysna and south up to Mossel Baai. Lots of good places with each their own appeal. Mountain or sea views both work. And if you can get both even better.

We are aiming to purchase in Oubaai or The Brink and Baywater in the next 5 or 10 years to scale down in size once the kids are all set on their own.

If I knew then what I know now, I would have moved to the Garden Route 10 years earlier.

Mind you. Its crap here. Donít come. Its expensive. People drink wine and donít know what pap is.

Nah, old wifes tales. A new access road has been approved by the Municipality and would join in near the Engen Garage on the N2, current access road not really a problem except two or three times during unrest but then the whole of Louis Fourie rd is a problem all the way to Langeberg Mall intersection. Danabay is approx 8 km from Mosselbay town, which is near enough during an emergency but far enough during the crazy December rush.

Conclusion: All these areas are good, so pick the one you like. Just don't choose based on December/January experience only.

Your criteria says Sedgefield, however you will also need another cottage in the woods somewhere coz sedgefield is the last place you want to be during holiday season
