Default GWM Steed 2.0 diesel any good?

My brother wants to have a look at a Steed double cab with the 2.0 Vgt diesel engine, used.

Are there any known issues with these or how good is this diesel if maintained? Is it their own engine design or a copy of some other manufacturers engine like with the 2.2 petrol?

I had a 2.0VGT 4x4 DC and was very happy with it. Sold it at 130ish000 km.
The 2.0VGT is GWMs own design and has proven to be the more reliable.
Stay away from the 2.8 Tci
Problems I had was a rubber pipe behind the engine that pierced but was replaced under warranty.
A clutch cable rubber and thats it.
The one I had started to rust under the door rubbers but due to a panel beater who stuffed up so maybe you want to check that out and a bin cracks in the bottom corners at the back.
All and all a good buy and good value for money.
    Average was around 11km/l.

I also checked them out before deciding on the Navara. Could not find alot on them, also maybe worth while looking at the Tunland with the 2.8 cummins.

Foton parts are a problem, my mate has a Tunland and he battles to get spares from the agents. Also the engine packed up....twice.
GWM might have less power and more basic but its a better bakkie by far.

Cool thanks for the responses. The one he is looking at has about 80K on the clock, and I think its a 2015 model 2x4.

He is someone that will drive any vehicle for a long time, so I was wondering about longer term ownership.

Just make sure the cambelt service was done on 80 000km. Its quite expensive especially at the agents.
Long term ownership wont be a problem because they are pretty well built and service parts are available from MPD at a very reasonable price.

Is it not this 2.0 that has the bad injectors? Apparently the injector tip breaks off and destroys the engine? I hope I have the wrong engine here

Reenen has a good point. For more or less the same money he can get a Nissan NP300 2.5 TDi which is a better bakkie

Ja ek het actually vir hom gesÍ as hy nie so iets splinternuut koop nie, moet liewers nie used koop nie.

It all depends on how it was maintained by previous owner, and that is almost impossible to get to the truth.

Hy moet maar kyk vir so NP300 of dalk 'n ford ranger / bt50 soos myne, parte volop maar nouja kyk hoeveel akkies het ek ook gehad met my ranger....
