Any advice on spider bite treatment?

A friend of ours was bitten by an unknown spider about two weeks ago. The doctor gave him 1000mg Amoxipen. The bite site has apparently formed a hole in the skin or become hollow (die byt plek het 'n gat ingeval) and he seems to be very sick, so much so that he spends a lot of time lying down.

Does anyone have any advice on any further treatment for such a bite? Perhaps some home remedies (boereraad)?

Three things

1 - Home remedies does not work for serious envenomation

2 - Spider bites are super painful when they happen, you would not sleep through a bite, or notice a mark a day or even hours later. So unless they physically saw the spider bite them, then the chance of it being a spider bite is nearly 0.

3 - A doctors "confirmation" of a spider bite, 95+% of times, is wrong.

Point one : I agree
Point 2: I do definitely not agree, depending on the spider, you could not even realize you have been bitten and pain can take quite a while to develop and due to some venom characteristics, you could maybe not feel pain at all, and just an itching sensation.
Point 3: Is purely just obviously your opinion and not fact

The loss of tissue is a sign that it was most probably a spider.

To help the wound heal, apply copious amounts of Ilosun ontment.

My bil has a circulation sore on his heal (similar to a diabetes sore) which the wound sister is treating with Ilosun.

Go to Casualty and get antibiotics to stop the flesh from rotting. Spiders find me delicious, so I learnt the hard way.


Bite will generally manifest as two bites next to each other, like mine below. This is diagnostic and preceded by a blister.

I good friend of mine's dad died due to the complications of a spider bite.
He died months after the bite, due to internal bleeding.

But here goes Any way
Mate of mine told me that if you get bitten by a Spider put a slice of tomato on it with a elastoplast
Well I told him what to do with his K a K advice...

Anyway a year later while camping in Bonamanzi I got bitten, a Saturday night, nowhere to get help.
This thing came up in about a hour the size of big Pea,
Now what
I cut a Tomatoe slice, skin side onto the plaster and stuck in on.....
the nèxt morning, All gone...
Worked like a Charm...
And have used it again since..

Have had a bite on my back (Violin Spider), this one we believe a Sac Spider and the one on my back a Sac Spider as well. Apparently, Violin and Sac Spiders are the ones that bite the most. This spiders aim was perfect, right between the eyes.

FIL was bitten by a sac spider a few years back. He was ignorant and delayed seeing the doctor. Had a hole in his thigh the size of a golf ball. Doctor said most important thing with spider bites and especially sac and violin spiders is to prevent secondary infections. The bite itself causes damages but secondary infection causes way more damage.

Wow, that healed so well. Not even skin tissue damage. Impressive healing there, Mr Leigh. Glad that the incident is in the past.

I never took spiders or spider bites seriously. I just let them be if I saw one. Then one bit my grandfather during the night. He immediately went to the doctor and they removed the necrotic tissue... almost. He lost a finger because of the incident. So I had a little talk with my house and explained to the spiders that there's a big outside to live in and if they come inside they have chosen to die.

No spiders in my house if sighted.

Had a spider bite me on the upper leg. Went to doctor, got meds and then the thing exploded in the bath. Jumped out and almost fainted - not a nice site.

Left a hole in my leg that I could fit the tip of my pinkie finger into. Treated with peroxide as I could not clean al the way inside.

This was 20 years ago, but still have a slight indentation on my leg.

Try CERDAK plasters , they work wonders with spider bites, it is ceramic powder which work wonders, I think its available from Dischem and other paharmacies

Had my first encounter with a spider bite when i was 10 years old. as the venom spread holes started falling in. 21 in total on my bum.
