    Default Spare wheel lock?

    Hi Guys,

I just bought a 2019 Pajero Sport last Friday. Quickly realized there's no spare wheel lock on the vehicle.

Now, I've heard so many stories and every person I speak to has different advice from the other.

What do I do? Which lock do I buy? Do I make my own?

I am pretty sure this is the same issue for all of us.

I had the 2010 model and used a proper heavy duty chain within a bicycle tube and locked with a good quality weather proof padlock. There was a guy that actually installed a small alarm system as well .. siren would go off if spare wheel is removed

After my spare wheel was stolen I use a bicycle cable lock around the spare wheel and chassis.
I tape up the lock part so that dirt does not get in. Key must be on your car keys.
You can get this cable at Builders, Sportsmans or any cycle shop.
Has worked for me so far.

Grip tech makes Vesa approved spare wheel locks. They work with a mag wheel locknut so there are no problems with dirt getting in the lock and jamming etc. I've fitted quite a few to various cars and had no issues. They're simple and bolt up to the factory holes etc:

Whatever you do, dont buy a chain. Buy the thickets bicycle CABLE lock you can buy. Bolt cutter takes forever to get through this vs a chain.

These are good well my spare never got stolen with one of them. New bakkie has a lock where you insert the rod to get to the winch

For me the round disc lock works perfectly... Just a headache to remomove that lock if you happen to lose the key...

We use bike cable locks for exposed spare wheels (the first spare is protected by the rear cover). Also use these for other stuff which is exposed - sand ladders, fuel cans, etc.). Haven't lost anything yet except for fuel once - at a campsite. We had cable ties on the caps, but they're easy to cut.
