Default Echo Chobe ordered (and some mods)

I have been to the Echo shop in Pta some time back looking for some extras on the Kavango, then saw the Chobe. Kavango has now been sold and will pick up the Chobe within two weeks or so.

Not much info here so I thought I will share some details later. Kavango is a great van, but the Chobe will suit our needs better.

    congrats..

the chobe is a good looker and was high on the list for us, we ended up with a bushlapa purely because the service of echo was bad at that time, and they failed to get back to us in the promised time (took 6 weeks)..

I'm sure you will enjoy it!

I must admit their salesmen are not the best. But I like the product.

Hi JLK, I would be interested to know why you traded in the Kavango for Chobe, we are also trying to decide between the two. We are also throwing in the Namib as an option.

As said the Kavango is a good caravan, nothing wrong with it, but the better half decided she don't like the arrangement of the Kavango anymore. after getting used to the camper we have for a pickup, which we use most of the time. But staying some days at one place make the pickup also cumbersome, so we decided to go for smaller/lighter caravan if required for camping , but not a trailer with a rooftop tent.

Hi Guys , I've got the Chobe Tec on order , was suppose to get it on the 11th but Echo are apparently two weeks behind . We have also moved from the Kavango , mainly because the Chobe's weight and it seems a fair bit more practical in terms of setup .

Also looked at the Tec model, but it was cheaper at the end to take the normal one with the extras.

Will collect it only next week. Yes , it should have been finished at the start of the April. Echo is not famous for their service, but the product is not bad.

Does it mean we can start a Chobe thread soon - would be lekka to exchange experiences and ideas with other Chobe owners - I took ownership of my Chobe in February and are totally in love with the setup.

Echo sent it down to their Cape Town branch , then I collected it on Sunday from a friend who collected it form the dealer.

Had agents to sort out the papers at the border , 2 hours and gone. It tows very light and the construction looks solid.

Opened it now to check , but need some work to make it camp ready.

Shower had no mixer, not even connections to it.

Gas supply pipes is not a fixture, and pipes too short to get to the gas bottles, either need to extent or you have take each time the bottle out form its compartment.

We add add a micro wave oven from the list of extras , but its a normal 220 V one, no inverter either.

Geyser is on the other side of the kitchen, so you will waste some water before its hot.

No manuals, not even for the geyser.

I still need to check if the other extras was supplied, and if everything is working.

Congrats JLK. But this is the problem with Echo...
You don't get 12V microwaves. Inverter to run the microwave will be expensive and they should have told you this as well and recommended correct unit.
Hope they sort this out for you.
    Happy camping.

Thanks BruceHun, these shortcomings is not really an issue for me, just need to decide how and what I want. 220 V supply will be is on the list. Wife use a 220 V hairdryer from an inverter. Just need to upgrade the battery, somehow, they said one can fit 2 batteries I think I ask for a small inverter on the power box, which I did not see, same for a solar connection, but will check the list later.

We have an additional small pump for shower from a jerry cans, so that one may remain, or maybe fit a bullfinch mixer.

I will just let Mr Grobler know what was the shortages, once fixed.

Gas pipes sorted, bullfinch mixer ordered (https://www.justkampers.com/bullfinc...wer-point.html) , and shopping for a 2000 Watt (mod) sine inverter, then its camp ready!

There is provision for 105 Ah battery, its issued with 80 Ah.

100 Ah battery fitted (Chinese 6FM100, see manual below (all I could get that fits)) , max height of battery cannot be more than 220mm else the poles will touch the cover.

(not sure why some picture stays upside down)
