    Default Psychiatrist

This is a very sensitive issue but I feel that I can no longer ignore it. One of my siblings has been seeing a psychiatrist for the last 2 years. The problem is that most of the time she's zoned out and physically shakes a lot. I'm concerned that her meds are not correct and in fact making her physically ill.

I want her to get a second opinion. Can anyone here recommend a good psychiatrist? Please pm me. Thanks.

I don't know of a Psychiatrist, but honest question, has your sibling been to a decent neurologist to ensure that there isn't some other issue at play?

Cool. If you need one of those I can highly recommend Professor G Modi. He saved Swambo's life (her doctor was treating her for migraines without getting to the route cause, he found the route cause and sorted her out.) He also helped a work Colleagues wife when no one else knew what was wrong.

Have you checked the meds ?
Even at a chemists dispencary will help.
Had problem with my Mom. 6 tablets did this, the other 6 prevented it.....

I haven't checked the meds, and to be honest I have very little knowledge when it comes to this sort of medication. I think I'll ask our local pharmacist to check it out. But I still want her to see another psych. And I will suggest that she sees a neurologist as well.

Before a psychiatrist prescribes meds, they are supposed to eliminate any other cause including having an MRI and, if deemed necessary, a neurological assessment done. After meds are prescribed repeat visits are necessary to adjust the dosage up or down to optimal or change the meds if they have adverse effects.

Second opinion; even if it is your GP. He will be professional enough to advise you.

My GP refuses to go near psychiatric meds as he says it is a specialised field. According to him, no GP should dabble in them.

Your GP isn't wrong. There's a reason these people specialize in a specific field. Just like a chiropractor shouldn't catch a baby, a GP should't prescribe psych meds.

It is not a question of dabbling in psychiatric meds, but just someone who knows you well confirming the likelihood of the problem being one that requires psychiatric intervention. Also depends on that GP's interests and knowledge from his existing patient base. But I do agree that any professional should avoid areas where they don't have current and in depth knowledge/experience.

Some psychiatrists can tend to overmedicate, just as some surgeons tend to see an operation as the obvious solution. Others, of both disciplines, are far more conservative in their treatments.

Problems can arise due to the environment you work or live in, your own life style choices or may it may simply be a physical deficiency that some type of medication can balance.

It's possible the full extent of the shakes and physical illness has not been communicated to the psychiatrist. I'd suggest you first speak with her current psychiatrist about your observations.

    Good luck
