    Default (Fake) Fuel Shortage

Someone posted a voice message on social media that there is a shortage.

Everyone goes out and panic buy.

Now there is no more fuel at the filling stations.

There has been rumors going around a while now that diesel is a bit in short supply, however I have not seen it. Filled up the truck just in case though. I dont do a lot of driving so it will last me quite some time.

I could also not agree on what has been said over weeks but can confirm where I normally fill up they are without diesel now for 10 days. 6 fillings stations around my work have no diesel. Not a joke if you drive from 1 to the other and get the same answer. No diesel. This is on the eastern industrial area in Pta.

Please note this is in the Botswana section.

I see on Facebook that some people claim that Gaborone, F/Town, Palapye, Lobatse... all stations are empty.

Our Farmers Co-op runs the only fuel station in town. They have sent a WhatsApp stating there is a diesel shortage and customers will be rationed to 60 litres.

    Yes.

But there is no real shortage. (See post #2) Because of the fake voice message on the social media, everyone went out and filled up. It was chaos out there this afternoon. The result of the panic buy is that the filling stations are now empty. It should be sorted out in the next few days.

Hahahah Very reliable nowadays. Use them very often. All they need is to build a new structure Filling Station that will stand out.

Went shopping this morning. Filling stations had either a looong queue... or empty with red cones at the pumps.

There is a shortage for probably 4 weeks already. We have been rationed since and have never got more thaan 40% of our orders.Often some products were not even delivered.
Firstly they did not refine during lockdown as im sure they dont wanna sit with millions of litres of product that evaporates..Then things picked up too quick and they were suddenly under pressure
Secondly it sounds like the pipline running from durban to kroonstad was vandalised to steal fuel from it and the line was closed for i think 2 weeks. It opened last week some time..But backlogs are huge so its gonna be another week or so before we see a difference
Gas is a problem because the gas companies are running out of empty bottles i was told..Beginning of winter many people dont have empties and buy a complete bottle not handing in an empty for the companies to refill so long.
