    Default 4WD Rally conversion

    Hi guys.

Want to find out if anyone may know who can do a 4WD conversion on a hatchback to convert it into a Rally Car?

Not possible without significant fabrication. Go find Project Binky on Youtube.

I'd start with a 4x4 hatchback and make a rally car.

why not start the project with a Subaru, its 4 wheel drive , good base as a rally car . go from there , think to try and convert to 4x4 could be costly . It can be done , but you could also need a dump truck full of cash to do so. anything is possible , but some is just way easier and cost effective . platform that work , makes it easy to get done .

I know at a stage a private person could buy from VWSA Motorsport, don't know what the current situation is.

    (But I did found this:

    190K Euro + VAT )

I believe one or two were used in local/regional rallies around the world.

Ideally, one would need an AWD system that allows for a split front-rear to be dialed in, like Subaru. Next best would be a selectable AWD like that on a Jeep Patriot.

If the conversion is going into a Golf body for example, then a donor system would be required. This would require some body modification unless you take the floorpan from the one and mount the body of the other on it with still lots of measuring, cutting and welding as well as reinforcing required. The elektronickery could be problematic. Then the mating of the original engine to the transmission and associated peripherals.

If its for competition purposes then you could run into problems in meeting a category formula/requirement.

It could easily end up as a R1 million project on a R30k car. But hey, if you have the dosh and thats what you want to do, then go for it.

I've been out of the game for too long now, so don't know anyone off hand. I don't know where you reside, but would make contact with those in the racing fraternity and state your requirements. Guys like Glynn Hall and the late Own Ashley or Hennie vd Linde used to be the go to guys. Even Hannes Grobler.

I don't know the younger generation, but visit the nearest racing circuit.

Just for a toy/project or would you like to race it officially?
First one is easy, 2nd one is eye-watering expensive!!!
There is some local builders that will build you the complete car.
Make sure you know the regulations before you even start
