Between a FL2 and a Pajero or PS, I'm very biased, but would go Mitsu. I've had a 3.2 Gen4 Pajero, which I loved, and currently a 2.5 PS, which is hands down my favourite Mitsubishi I've owned. I get significantly better fuel consumption over the big guy, 10l/100 vs 12.5 on the Gen4, I find gravel and mud handling to be better, and overall, because I feel less sorry for it than the big fancy guy, I've used it far more, and found it very capable. The only place the Gen4 won for me was towing, I know there is something behind me in the PS, and on the Gen4 I had to constantly make sure the trailer or boat was still there.

The 3.2 PS has a 4 speed auto, my only concern with it.

    The choice is easy.

A nice 2008-2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD.

    It has:

A much better and more reliable engine than the other choices. Research OM642 motor for peace of mind. And 160kw and 500nm to play with.
The best 4x4 system of any luxobarge SUV from that era.
    Parts availability.
    Ride and general comfort.
You can wear Jeep clothing without looking like a twat.
Resale value is terrible, so bargains abound.

That is the type of advice you give to someone you don't like! Have you got something against the OP?

Never owned, but yeah have driven them. Very nice, no question, but so is a Disco V6 diesel.

The OP asked for choice between LR and Pajero though.

Comparing a WK CRD to LR V6 diesel from a reliability POV is plain stupid.

And the OP mentioned that his main consideration is engine reliability, the Merc OM642 is renowned for reliability.

The Pajero Sport from then directly competes with:

    Fortuner
    Chev Trailblazer
    Old shape Ford Everest.

Don't disregard any of these. I had a Trailblazer so I am biased.

I have only heard good things from the PS.

Why does a plain and simple question always have to turn into a "yes, but have you seen mine!" issue?

    yep.

The guys asks about A or B and some genius always says "What about C because I've got/seen/read about one and it's magic".

    I honestly was not trolling.

Just offering an alternative option - one which I believe address the concerns of the OP.

And I did not slag or make derogatory statements about any of the other options.

Everybody really need to take a chill pill.
