Default 3,6 Pentastar, 2012, what oil do you use...

Asking for a friend, 3,6 Pentastar 2012 what engine oil to use and why, he does not want to use the dealer supplied oil, and tells me spec required is Chrysler MS-6395, which is the same spec Liquimoly Special Tec 5W20 I use on the Fattie.

What do you use, and any previous problems / issues of concerns with others you might have tried..??

    Thank you in advance..

I know that ZoneOffroad only uses Liquimoly 5W30 with their services.

It seems the best bet is Liquimoly 5W30.

Bulli uses this in the 3.6 Pentastar.

Thank you gents, seems he has tried the Liquimoly 5W30 but drained it a few days later due to what he felt was excessive engine noise..

    He used LiquiMoly Molygen 5W30..

He runs some pretty good vehicles, and maintains religiously, basically I'm trying to say he understands the importance of a 13mm spanner, vehicle wise..

Most Americans use Pennzoil or Mobil 1. Not sure where to get those here.

    Why not MOPAR?

5w30 Mopar clocks in at R350p/l and 5w20 at R162p/l.

You can buy any Liqui Moly grade of oil at any Goldwagen for under R130p/l

Some of them are happy on 5w20 and some on 5w30.

Most of the earlier 3.6 wranglers are specced to run on a 5w30, it's normally indicated on the oil cap.

Most of the earlier 3.6 wranglers also suffer from noisy hydraulic lifters...

I personally do not like the Molygen line from LM. Personal preference.

I hear good things about Fuchs, but non of my local suppliers supply it, and the one that does sell it at a price that i cannot resell it and be competitive.

At the end, any quality make of oil will be good, it is all about the spec.
Same engines in different cars behave different on the same oil.

I hope I got the message last night right so it does not look like I'm talking out of my ar$e here, my mate is going with the 5W30 Mopar oil, seems many dealers have it as uber expensive 1L containers only, where he found the Vereeniging dealer having it in 5L containers at a better per liter price, somewhere around the R1K mark for 5L..??..

Anyway, hope he comes right, must admit that I am happy with the (correct) LiquiMoly in the Fattie, and the CJ-7 runs happily on partially used sunflower oil with some food colorant perfectly well so she is fine..

Thanks again for the feedback & contribution to all!!

And they are made from low grade steel so the heads strip easily.
I had to buy some replacements from Jeep because they rounded the head before I started doing my own maintenance.
