    Default Wire thickness for inverter.

Hi what wire thickness will be sufficient to run from battery to my 1000w inverter.
    About 500mm in length.

    I'd say to draw 1000W from a 12 V battery requires 80 Amps.

As per below, you'd need a cable of 7mm diameter.

But let's wait for the elec fundis to give you the correct answer.

Never going to run 1000w maybe at the most 350w.
Was looking at 4sq not sure if it will work.

    16 mm - voltage drop < 2%.

4mm2 will be good for up to 40A or 500W

Running a thicker cable will result in less heat and less resistance over the cable.
It won't hurt to put in a thicker cable at all.

Although 7mm might be the size to use one cannot get the cable or lugs.
Rather use 16 Sq mm and you can use whatever you need to power from the 1000W the inverter can supply. It is only 1m in total to buy. Also no real gain to start using 35 50.or 70mm welding cable.

I agree, since you are looking at only buying a meter, go for 16mm and be done with it, rather spend R100 more now than having to worry about heat and other stuff later.
