If you want a disco 4 then buy it and enjoy it. Itís a very different drive to a 3

do the maintenance properly. Gearbox flush. Oil change every 10k. Oil pump at cam belt time.

hopefully youíll get around 120k for your 3

    My 2cw.

My wifeís D4 is on 140k. Only service items. Also had the gearbox serviced with ZF and cambelt service.

If you are looking at a 2012 model the mileage seems low. Also the cambelt service would need to have been done (done every 7 years or 180k whichever comes first). Check that. Also it is a six speed - 2013/2014 onward is an 8 speed with some upgrades to the infotainment system and some other cosmetic changes.

Perhaps a 2013/2014 model with FSH that has had the cambelt service can be had for similar money?

True words, but... once you've driven a D4 you'll just not care about the above. I'm thinking of selling mine but on the other hand I keep reminding myself that nothing else out there matches its comfort and reliability; so still hanging on to mine after 6 years. (usually I keep a car for 3 years)

Just make sure to give any vehicle you buy (not D4 specific) a good checkup and preventative maintenance and a good aftermarket warranty goes a long way.

but thats pointless as it wont increase the value one bit

and as we all know the D4 is a better vehicle all round

I thought some earlier versions of the pump had an issue which made changing it to the upgraded pump a wise move?

I only ever saw one that was broken, they broke because when the cambelt tensioner was replaced people like really over tightened the bolt
some will try and say it had improved oil flow yet when you strip the old original vs the later one they had the same pumping capacity as they used the same off set rotor gears...

I seriously dont need anyone telling me that a pump must be changed on every cambelt change, I've rebuilt these motors and there has never been a lube problem with them, although replaced as its a rebuild, sadly no longer do them as they are not viable

As far as I know the original oil pump issue was more to do with that bolt breaking, the case cracking, losing oil pressure, running bearings, breaking the crank. In roughly that order.

"Routine" replacements after that are (I think) insurance and trying to cover all bases trying to intimidate and even conquer the black box of crank-snap.

IF I may hop on this post

Knowing all the risk of combing through the most of this forum....
    https://www.gumtree.co.za/a-cars-bak...40912408362509

Would this be a good buy (provided all in order in terms of what needed to be changed)

Service history " most by agents and the later part other franchise.

and finally is the K's to high?

    (LR owners)

I just need a Yes or No

    TIA

I'm not a Land Rover owner but I'm always reading the posts because I love them (especially a D4 and a defender TD5). You better put an option in on that car now that you've advertised it here, by all accounts the V8 is the one to go for and this one looks good, but wait for the experts
