My vriend wat 'n V6 het, het reeds gesÍ hy sal nie die volgende model wat deur Ford gebou word aanskaf nie. Ek vermoed VW gaan kliŽnte verloor met hierdie besluit.

I agree. I foresee the repeat of the Ranger/BT50 and Nissan/Merc scenario, and I just can not believe the "ignorant" marketing team at VW does not see this. Sad day for me. It seems my current 2nd Amarok will be my last. Hallo again Isuzu.

The combined efforts of these two manufacturers will see a great bakkie. The only let down will be emission nonsense. Delete the emission stuff, flash it, and enjoy it.

Mark my words, whether we like it or not, it will be a great vehicle.

    I agree.

VW's reasoning for the partnership is that they wouldn't have been able to produce a new model. They should just have stopped the Amarok model there and then.

With this new model it will only delay the inevitable death. Seems like they have learned nothing from the X class disaster.

This is what I don't get, why would you buy a rebadged of anything? Why not just get the original model? Another thing, Ford SA is known for it's massive discounts on new cars, something VW rarely does. How are they going to compete with that?

I also cannot see any VW drivetrain in the next Amarok, not when it will be build at Ford's factory.

Maybe you should see and drive the bakkie before you decide which one you'd buy.

Marius, if this is going to be the case, I will gladly eat my words and apologize. I see the words "Ford engineered" just to many times in these statements. Ford engineered and build quality is in my view not VW engineered and build quality. History has so far shown that these collaborations just does not go down well. VW made the mistake from the start to term the Amarok as a commercial vehicle. That it is not. It is bought (in this country at least) primarily as a practical leisure and family vehicle, but they keep on referring to it as a commercial vehicle. It should have been included in the VW stable as part of the passenger lineup, both from a marketing and target market perspective.

Maybe not snobbery but reliability issues.

Agree, IMO it will be a sad day if a Ford mill ends up in the Amarok, will VW test it?? we know all too well that Ford skrimps on the R&D and testing......best scenario is for them to have their own drivetrains, which may defeat the purpose of a collaboration/badge engineering.

EDIT: even worse - they are dropping the superb ZF 8!!

NEXT-GEN (SA-BUILT!) VOLKSWAGEN AMAROK TO USE FORD ENGINES – REPORT
A fresh report out of Australia claims the next-generation Volkswagen Amarok will not only be based on the Ford Ranger’s platform but use the Blue Oval bakkie’s engines, too.

VW recently has confirmed the second-generation Amarok would be built alongside the next Ranger at Ford’s assembly plant in Silverton, South Africa from 2022.

Now, however, CarAdvice reports the next Amarok will “adopt at least two key Ford engines”. The first, says the publication, is the Dearborn-based firm’s twin-turbo 2,0-litre diesel unit, as used in the Ranger Raptor and other derivatives (as well as the Everest).

The second is Ford’s 3,0-litre turbodiesel V6, which is rumoured to be lined up for use in the next-gen Raptor. CarAdvice claims both engines will be linked to Ford’s 10-speed automatic transmission.

If the report turns out to be accurate, that’d mean the end of the line for the current Amarok’s 3,0-litre V6 oil-burner.

While VW’s official statement makes no mention of powertrains, it does say the next-gen Ranger and Amarok models will be “clearly differentiated” through “custom designs and interfaces”.

In March 2020, VW released the first teaser sketch of the second-generation Amarok (prompting this render). At the start of 2019, the two firms announced the first “formal agreements in a broad alliance” that would include the Blue Oval brand engineering and building “medium-sized” bakkies “for both companies”.

That initial joint statement from the two brands indicated the first bakkies built under the alliance would hit the market “as early as 2022”.

Dirk kan move the VW thread now in under the Ford thread
