Default Thicker oil for noisy lifters

My vg30 v6 has a noisy lifters, use to be for a while after startup and later got better when the engine warmed up. After servicing with Shell helix the noise got progressively worse. Think the oil is to thin. What thicker oil can I use to help with the noisy lifter but not damage engine?

What viscosity are you running now?

5w30 on an old engine will indeed be a little thin.

20w-50 Shell Helix hx3, even though it's 20w-50 it looks thinner to me than other 20w-50 oils.

strangely enough I think you've gone too THICK : 20W implies an extreme hot weather oil, that stuff is like glue

Drain and replace with Delo Gold 15W40.
