''C'' Squadron was the designation of the Rhodesian SAS, ''D'' remains part of the UK structure of the 22nd SAS. They retain A, B, D and G.

C and E squadrons remain on the reserve lists under the 21st SAS.

    Bear Grylls is/was 21 squadron

    Thankfully missed that cluster.

Was in Oshivello and Oshigambo trying to get a bunch of old CFs that never had infantry mustering to understand bush warfare. I was not looking forward to converting from MOT to MECH.

I have enjoyed this thread immensely.

How it has evolved from a wannabe Boemelaar imposter to a reminiscing time.

    Hi Jelo,
Did 5 months at Elundu, was an extended stay due to 'circumstances'. Was also at Okatope for 3 months, Etali - 1 month. Ondangwa Air Base 3 months. That was my DP service.
When we were at Elundu we had the dubious 'pleasure' of hosting the then 'respected' photo journalist Al J Venter visit us for a week. He was a real 'Grens Vegter' who did nothing but take photos?
He took this photo of my very good mate, Vaughan Kew, which ended up on the front page of 'Soldier of Fortune'
Another of Hendrik Smith aka 'Smitty' also used by Al J Venter.
Interestingly for some, we also had Roy Bramwell, from Soft Shoes fame, with us for my full 2yrs.
At Elundu which was a relatively small base, I estimate maybe a max of 10,000sqm in total, we had an enclosed area, with barbed wire which housed a ammo depot for 32Bn. They would pop in quite regularly to re-arm. Did not have too much to do with them though.
Sometimes think it is important that younger generation understand that we were just normal guys who were put into situations that we had very little control over. They should not idolize the images that some 'Wannabees' paint in order to get admiration and hero worship.
Again I say we were normal guys who by God's grace and mercy can out alive and with some good and bad memories.
    My 2cw.
    Roy
