    Default 3.0 Vibration

    I have been wondering.

My 3.0 Tdci 4x4 supercab seems to "vibrate" a lot when sitting and idling the engine - feel it in the cab and the mirrors wobble at idle. The engine is idling at about 800RPM so its not very low, and as soon as it revs just a little bit the vibration is a lot less, also when driving all is fine but siting at a traffic light makes my fillings in my teeth come loose it feels.

I have looked at the engine mountings and all seem (visually) OK and the engine does not move much when I pull off or under load.

Are these 3.0's that rough since my 2.5 never vibrated this much, or should I replace the engine mountings?

Also check the gearbox crossmember mounts. You can't check the stuff by looking anyway. You need a pry-bar and a hoist. IMHO.

Dont engines have a vibration balancing system?

Remember the old Mitsubishi Colt Gallant adds with a glass of water on the rocker cover?

What I did was put a brick in front of the one wheel (since the handbrake on these old fords are useless at best) and opened bonnet and asked my brother to slowly pull away while I look and there seems to be no real movement of the engine, as I would expect when a rubber mount is tired.

It always kinda did this since I bought it, but that was fairly recent and with all the time it spend having things fixed I did not give it much thought.

They do. Both the 2,5 WLT and the 3,0 WEC has dual balancer shafts. I would say it works quite good, especially on the 2,5WLT.
The 3,0WEC has additionally a dual mass flywheel to remove more vibrations.
Since mine was locked up (cheap remedy) the engin vibrates a lot more when driven under 2500rpm.

Apart from a mount becomming a bit more flexible before failing, balancing shaft issue.

    Thanks Spice.

The old Hardbody gearbox mount would collapse and go lay on the crossmember. Or if one of the engine mounts went, the whole setup up would tilt and the gearbox mount would wedge the crossmember. Both of these would cause a vibration. I got fedup with these mounts packing up every few months, and the Nissan mount was also not doing the trick. Needing to keep that setup dead accurate to insure perfect line up to my TC, I built a polly mount setup to replace the old Nissan part, and now have the same vibration. Personally will live with it knowing that my gearbox stays located where it is supposed to, preventing other problems of misalignment that could occur.

    Thanks Spice.
Some HiLuxes had balancer shaft issues and it was outrageously expensive to replace. A friend bought a bakkie cheap-cheap about just for the body because of that issue. He installed a 3,0KZTE engine. It could be the 2700 or the 3000d, don't know which one is the culprit.

I guess I will take it to the workshop (again - this bakkie loves workshops) and have them take a look at it - I am just worried if places are not desperate for business and money after this lockdown period and make me spend all my beer money...
