Sources close to this incident highlighted the following: The driver ran away - they caught the passengers (so driver will be found) - boot had lots of liquor - some still full.

Alcohol abuse happens when Alcohol sales are not controlled after such lengthy lockdown and inevtiably someone will come off second best because of that. This surely is a sad eye opener.
No, alcohol abuse happens when excess alcoholic beverages are used. Nothing to do with the ban...

Im proud to say that there is no alcohol in my house. Hardly ever is

Let me start off by saying I have many friends of all backgrounds so I have no problem with those who choose to do what probably wouldn't but the stats are clear. Alcohol is a major problem in this society.
Last night at about 10pm I lost a younger cousin at 24 years old on his way home from work where an accident occurred. Not even 24hrs after alcohol is on sale again he met a drunken driver with his bike just a few roads away from being safely home. As with any accident some facts may be hidden forever (was he speeding, was the other vehicle in the wrong etc) but what is clear is that the 'drunk car' drove away and returned a while later with a sober driver. We all know what that sounds like, I don't think that part needs an explanantion. For now we can only assume what seems to have happened given the chain of events and that can't be changed. Fact is, he is gone and his parents and family are left with the scars.

    ....I'll end at that....

Also saw that, maybe it was parked in a blind spot or no parking zone, round a tight corner or similar.

Why would a stationary vehicle suddenly drive away?

Many questions popping up and false stories going around as is the norm these days with quick info on phones and sharing. I'll be sure to update when it's all over but, yes, the vehicle involved was stationary and 'yes' it was an accident but there's a 'but' which will be answered soon enough. Many angles to this incident to consider

Nabs very sorry to hear - Strongs.

I must also add your handling of the social media / stories is extremely well done - a very good example in difficult times for a family.

Nabs focus on one very important point, alcohol, but I want to take it further.

Studies has shown that plus minus three quarters of all serious vehicle accidents happened within 25km of the driver's place of residence. Many studies has been done to find the reasons and the following stands out.

    1. Over confidence of the driver due to entering in a familiar area.
    2. Fatigue. A large portion of these accidents are return from work drivers.
    3. Drivers under the influence taking the quieter roads to slip police, which is normally those within/around residential areas.

So therein is a lesson for all of us driving a vehicle, even it you think your stay within the law, do not relax until the garage door has closed.

I have to agree with your first sentence, but differ on the second. I have after lockdown still about 25 liters of hard tack and even more wine left in my house. It is not the availability of something that is responsible for abuse, it is the mindset of the individual.

Thanks for all the cyber support, much appreciated.
Just a small update from my side regarding the many versions available.
This report on timeslive yesterday seems to be the most fair. Some details (which doesn't affect anything) are a bit off but still this is the best I've seen since yesterday. No rights, no wrongs, just what it is at this stage.
