    Unhappy 4m40 engine

    Greetings

I would like to know the exact size of a spanner or socket that I can but to turn the 2800tdi 4m40 engine on the pulley in front of crankshaft underneath.

I left my car last year in the garage and my son delayed to start and run it, it's been 5 months now without running. I want him to turn it manually sothat it won't seize.

I will also request any advices on danger of car not running for that long please.
    Tia

Please don't turn that engine on the crank pulley bolt. A high compression diesel is very difficult to turn and he can easily damage the bolt or even the pulley and crank.
Rather just spin the engine 1 or 2 turns with a quick flick of the starter.

Thank you very much, how dangerous is it to leave it until I come back September?

Depends where it is. Near the sea might be an issue but I've seen cars start after being stored for years. Rotten diesel should be your bigger worry.

Unless he is hulk hogan, he can not by hand exert enough force with a spanner to damage that bolt.

    Turn it.

However, if it was only 5 months, I wouldnt worry. (Not recommended though)

I have opened engines that stood for years and the bearing surfaces were pristine. (Engine was stored properly though)

A car that stands, breaks. He needs to drive it. 50km at least once a month to get drivetrain up to temp etc.

Why dont you just let him start it and let it idle for 10min each month?

I am thinking of replacing all fluids before I even start and drive it, engine oil, gear box oil, diff oil, coolant.

Yes the problem is the battery has gone pap, that's why I want him to keep on turning it using a spanner or socket
