    Default Kicking the habit- alcohol

Having read a few articles during the last month or so about the alcohol ban and the "good" it brings in terms of reduced domestic violence got me to start pondering.

Since Monday this week I have not touched alcohol, by choice and not because I ran out ( I still have lots of fruit salad) and can safely say I haven't murred the missus. So being sober works, as does being inebriated as I have never murred the missus after a few rums either. Which sort of makes me think blaming alcohol for personality deficiencies is going a bit far.

But anyway, the after work tea is soothing, can't say I am missing the alcohol much which is a good thing I guess.

Disclaimer: before someone complains and quotes me three months down the line, I am not saying anyone should stop drinking.

Have been drinking cocktails to defy the cANCer, something we were into way back then. Have about 400 mixes in 4 books, all annotated G, VG, FG and tips here and there. Now got another annotation! FG 2020 on many.

Need a few bottles of hooch to replenish now though.

I love beer but used to get carried away too often, I drink the Beck's Blue mostly now, non-alcoholic, doesn't taste too bad.

It's quite a good option if you don't want to drink alcohol but still enjoy a beer on a hot day, cold day, gardening, working on the car, etc, etc...

I do however still get Castle Lite for a braai etc but will only get 6 so I don't over indulge.

Iím still wondering why SA, to the best of my knowledge, is the ONLY country in the world to have outright banned the sale of alcohol citing corona as an excuse.

I've never been in a situation where I felt I was going to do something stupid or die if I don't get a dop right now, also never been in a situation where I was willing to pay silly money just to get a dop.

I still have some beer and brandy left which I purchased before lock down and it's not as if I bought a lot going in. There was times where I didn't drink anything for 2 weeks and then times like yesterday where I had a 6 pack in a afternoon.

In general over the last year or so I actually drank quite moderately 90% of the time with a big evening or weekend every once in a while.

Make no mistake I love my beer, but if I have to, I will be able to go without it no problem. I drink because I want to, not because I have to, I can enjoy myself without a drink in hand.

I'd rather have a chilli enema than give up Lagavulin, Laphroaig or pretty much any Islay Whisky, life's just to damn short not to enjoy the finer things it has to offer.

Not a big drinker at all and can go months without drinks , but lockdown gave me the time to make my own ( mostly for my friends and sons ) . Making your own alcohol opens up a new world , you can brew your drinks the way you want it ( strength and taste) and I really enjoy that . Me and the missus now takes a drink every night , makes me sleep better at night and best of all , donít have to pay the cANCer taxes

I just miss being able to decide for myself if I want to drink or not. And braaing without a beer is crap

I like my drink and have something most days, but do go without it for days sometimes as well. Having said that, you have to live in a country with moderate alcohol consumption first to realise just how much Saffas do drink.

Ek kan maklik braai sonder vleis Maar sonder Whiskey

Jokes aside. I enjoy a whiskey in the evenings. Do enjoy a beer from time to time. Can also go without something to drink, does not
bother me. But being next to a fire without a Whiskey just feels wrong.
