I had to go and Google the Smit Amanda now.

I was a sea loving teenager when these tugs were launched and they just conjur up such beautiful dreams of racing off as a tug captain to go and save some ship in distress somewhere.

The Wilbur Smith book "as hungry as the sea" was loosely based on these two tugs.

Wonderful that one of them is still in service.

Seems like another Chinese Crude oil tanker with problems off the coast of Mossel Bay.The Xin Dan Yang is anchored up approx 15 miles off the coast with the SA Amandla tug(John Ross) in close attendance.
Cannot seem to find any news on the net.
